Pixel Art / [wip] Super!
« on: May 23, 2008, 03:15:27 pm »
I just got Pro Motion and I'm learning how to use it... so I'm making a super hero girl. It'll probably end up being an x-men, probably rogue. ;)

Anyways, I just want to make sure the anatomy and everything is right before I proceed.

Pixel Art / Polar Bear Game WIP
« on: December 24, 2007, 06:23:13 am »
So in my spare time I've been working on this game for my phone... it's like this slalom game on my pc a long time ago, except with a cute polar bear instead of that nerdy dude. I want the graphics for gameplay to be pretty simplistic, but still look good. Here's what I have so far:

You have to dodge the trees, logs, stumps, evil snowmen and lost penquins.

Animations are not my forte, but I tried to make a few for this game. I could use some c&c. (They are soooo bad.... especially sir humpalot the bear) ;)

And this is the beginning of a menu/title screen.

I'm trying to make this into a working game but I want to perfect the graphics first. Any and all help is very appreciated.

General Discussion / Indiana Jones Game?
« on: November 27, 2007, 06:51:50 pm »
So I've been playing the demo Indy game from dkh's sig and I swear I've played a game just like that before. My brother had a DOS game a while back that was a puzzle/adventure game that looked similar. He bought it at Walmart so I don't think it was a fangame, but I can't find it on the official games list.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? I distinctly remember that we stopped playing the game after getting stuck in a cave where we had to play bones like a xylophone to open a door... please tell me I'm not crazy. :D I desperately want to find it and try to finish it.

Pixel Art / girl sitting

I'm working on a big piece for a layout... and I'd like to see if there's anything I need to address before I finish adding the details/shading. She's chibi so yeah, there are some anatomy issues... and I suck at lightsources, dithering and especially aa, but I'm trying. ;)

Original -> Edit 1 -> Edit 2 -> Edit 3 -> Final?

She's supposed to be slouched over but maybe not enough? I don't like her eyes either. I'm not sure why but something doesn't seem right.

General Discussion / Making Mobile Games
« on: August 22, 2007, 03:12:45 pm »
I'm new to game mockups and I've really enjoyed making the few that I have made so far. I'm starting to wonder more about making an actual playable mobile game and I have some questions.

First off, are there any tutorials out there on making mobile games? I don't want in depth game development advice because if I end up actually making a game, I'll hire someone to do that part... I just a general feel on the do's and don'ts from the artist's standpoint. I don't want to create some big elaborate scheme only to have someone tell me to scrap it because it's not technically possible.

How do game makers handle different screen sizes? Do they make a game just for each particular phone or just for a popular resolution? I would think for pixel artists this would be a big deal.

Is there an average size for games (kb-mb-wise)?

The only game I have on my RAZR is Bejeweled so... is it possible to save progress to some mobile games?

Any advice from someone who has made a working game in the past?

Pixel Art / My Mobile Mockup
« on: August 21, 2007, 05:18:29 pm »
Alrighty... so remember that game Chips Challenge? Back in the day that was one of the only games we had on our pc so I played it A LOT and grew to love it. I decided to make an homage to that game for my first mockup frenzy try. But instead of a little guy running around collecting chips to get the next level, I have a little panda collecting keys to escape from the zoo. It just made sense when I was trying to think of a one button game I would actually want to play. Up, down, left, right. Don't have to press anything else. Simple tiles. Simple sprites. Not much animation (well, actually none yet, ha).

What do yall think so far?

I still have to make the keys, some obstacles like fire, water, rocks, etc. and some pathbound and non-pathbound villains.

Pixel Art / Gameboy Attempt
« on: August 01, 2007, 07:01:35 am »
I wanted to try my hand at making a gameboy mockup and felt like making it ridiculously cute and all that... and I tried to stick to what I know of gameboy specifications. The key word being 'tried' because I'm pretty sure I messed up when it comes to sprite and tile size. It's my first time doing games/sprites/tiles so I'd love to hear any c&c.

Anyways... here's the cluttered version:

Without the sprites:

And here's my sorry attempt at a running panda sprite:
