Pixel Art / Elementals - some tips?
« on: July 31, 2021, 04:52:04 pm »
Hi.

I did these.

In these two, does the fire on the right look right? im not sure how it would look coming out from him especially wonder about the background fire at feet level, between the legs.
One the left, does the lights and shadows make sense in terms of shape. How would the internal lights affect him more than they do now?
On the right, does it look ice, or rock? Also does it look consistent in terms of shape and lights.

Thank you in advance. They are the Storm atronach and flame atronach from the game Elder scrolls IV - Oblivion

Edit: added frost atronach

Pixel Art / New Demon character - anatomy trouble! Please critique!
« on: June 03, 2021, 08:42:24 am »
Hi again.

I tried to study anatomy for this one, but not sure it looks right. I have looked at both pixelart examples, pictures and 3d models, but I am not sure it looks right.

Would appreciate any advice on the muscles on this one - tried to keep the palette limited, but there might be room for more colors.

This is supposed to be the Xivilai from Oblivion - https://en.uesp.net/wiki/File:OB-creature-Xivilai.jpg

*edit - would it look better with a second arm?  I want him to have a casual, but confident pose.

Pixel Art / Lizardman - please critique
« on: May 22, 2021, 09:09:12 pm »
Hello

Here I am again going after a too big sprite. I would really appreciate if you spot something that look off.
Are the lights and shapes looking ok? I am especially confused about the back hand and the right foot of the creature.

Also, how would you go about adding on a scale design as this is supposed to be some sort of croc man?

Thank you in advance!

Pixel Art / Minotaur - seeks advice
« on: March 04, 2021, 12:33:15 pm »
Hello again.

I am sorry if I ask. I really find the advice helps.

This here is a minotaur.  I wonder if it reads well? If not, where should it change?
I also am a bit confused about the arms specifically. Do they look strange?

Thank you always for advice!

Ps. I based it on this one

Pixel Art / Sload big monster - where can this improve?
« on: December 22, 2020, 10:36:44 pm »
Hi Guys. I am trying to create a Sload from The Elder Scrolls but I am not used to working in this size.
I want him this big in comparison with other characters though, so here is my attempt. I would really like to hear your expertize where things are wrong that I can fix.

Truly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

*Edit - Are colours ok? Does it need more or less of them?
The light is coming from right and up. With that in mind, does the body look strange?

2D & 3D / Gif panning? How do you do it?
« on: September 03, 2020, 04:26:41 pm »
Hi.

I have a question. I made a big level with pixelart. Some objects in the level I have made animations for. Like trees moving about or some enemies running around.   Is there anyway to animate panning the level without programming the whole thing and capturing it with somethings like fraps?

Is there any program to make animated scenes where you can essentially tell how an object should move about, which animation it should play when and how the camera should pan through the scene?

If not. Is there at least a program where I can easily pann through a large gif scene, with objects that are not moving but animating and the camera moves along from left to right to show the level?

The only thing I have found is in photoshop to pann a large image, but static.

Very thankful for advice!

« on: August 30, 2020, 08:52:15 am »
Hi!

I made a portrait of a friend but it looks really off...

I would like to get help to point out where I can change things.
Is it too many colours? are proportions wrong?

Pixel Art / Turtle - problem with shading
« on: March 08, 2020, 09:04:27 pm »
Hi.

here is a turtle - MegamanX style. Would be happy to get pointers on where things are not working. I feel that I cannot get the lights and shadows to work, so if you have any critiques about that I would sure appreciate it!

Thank you in advance!

General Discussion / Pixel art animation - moving sprites
« on: February 14, 2020, 03:07:44 pm »
Hi guys.

I saw this clip - the work through of making a  pixel-art monk jump attack. It looks very nice.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=is3DeKxPYDA

In this animation the monk jumps across the screen. It presents itself very well, but is this a common way to make pixel-art for games?
The animation do serve a purpose of moving the object itself though, it would not make much sense doing the animation moving the object in another way than moving forward.
However in my experience, when using a tool like game maker, i program the sprite itself to move, and a certain  animation is played when the object is moving a certain way or doing a specific action.

I have seen many animations made this way though, "where the whole sprite moves across the scene", including from spriters for famous games such as shovel knight.

So is this a common way to make pixel art animations for games? Or is it mostly for show? Would you implement an animation like this directly into a game, or would you first have to redo it so that the sprite is somewhat static in his movement, i.e. changing his animation but not moving across the screen?

Thank you so much! for your help and advice!
