Pixel Art / Plainsland Orc [C&C]
« on: June 14, 2010, 08:13:48 pm »
I started this last night and worked on it quite a bit this morning. I think I've come to an impasse at which point I can no longer improve it alone. I seek to prick thoughts from the artistic minds that wander here.

This is a battle sprite for a Dragon Warrior-esque RPG, one of the tribal plains orcs.

Pixel Art / [WIP] Gobblin
« on: May 19, 2010, 10:12:27 pm »
While awaiting critique for my snake, I began a new sprite. This is aimed to be one of the party characters, a gobblin, that will possibly walk around the map. Anyway, here is the progression:

I feel that I achieved the chubbiness that I was going for but his feet and legs seem strange. Any tips/pointers for me?

(Edit: Realized I wasn't using the forum's img tags so I fixed them)

Pixel Art / Snake [C&C]

Hello, I'm back after a fairly lengthy hiatus from pixel art--I'm also still quite green. I've got a lot of time this summer and aspirations to make a game. Typically I'm a programmer, but onto the point. I've made a snake sprite for use in Dragon Warrior style battle that I feel is ready for review.

First draft:

This was the first draft. I started to make a scaley diamond design on it but decided I was doing things wrong.
I had a pixel artist friend give me some pointers and...

4 hours later:

I came up with that. I'm looking for further critique. I couldn't get the head/eyes to turn out like I wanted either, so pointers there would be great.

Pixel Art / [WIP] Lord Vehement
« on: July 13, 2009, 04:00:03 am »
Just note that I'm a newbie at pixel art. I'm challenging myself by learning the way of the pixel.

I've got a fun little game planned and I decided I'd start piddling with sprites since I'm terrible at everything!

Anyway, I've settled on a process by which I first draw the outline of what I want with some detail lines as well. Then I move on to trying to shade it in.

Here is Lord Vehement in all his glory:
=> => => => => =>

I also made an isometric-ish (ish: considering I don't know the proper angle) treasure chest for practice:

Being new, I'm looking for constructive criticism along with tips for pixel art in general. Any and all aid is very much welcome!
