Pixel Art / Forever Eating Pizza
« on: March 16, 2018, 02:54:45 am »
Heyo! It's been a while since I dropped in. Realized my current profile pic is woefully out of date, so here's my new look.

(roughly based on this selfie)

Main issue I'm having right now is getting the pizza to read as pizza. Seems like most cartoon and/or pixel pizzas achieve that by using pepperoni, but I only like cheese! If anyone has tips, I'm all ears.

Also, I know it's a bit wonky looking, but I'm trying to lean into the cartoony side of things. That said, the rest of the face is still fair game if ya'll spot any problems. :U

edit:

Messed with the overall saturation and texture on the cheese. Not sure if the cheese is a step forward or back...

edit2:

More tweaks. Lots of small changes around the nose/mouth. Think I finally nailed that pizza texture. (maybe)

Made this zombie guy for an art test. Didn't end up getting the position, but I wouldn't have made this otherwise, so it's still a win for me.  :)

Anything glaringly wrong here?

Did this pipe for pixel dailies a bit ago, but I'm not quite satisfied with it. I realize there's a lot of colors - I was hoping to really go crazy on the reflections so I figured it was warranted. My main issue with it at the moment is the top "face" of the pipe.

Hello, it's been a while!  :D

Also been a while since I updated my look on social media so I made this today.

I feel like it's good enough to call done, but I'm usually wrong!   ;D  Totally open to any crits.

Hey guys, I'm challenging myself to complete a small game project in a week. :D So far all I really have is basic movement and some player animations, but I'll be updating this thread with my progress.

so I forgot animations tend to run faster in browser, so apologies if these seem a bit cracked out...

Idle

Walk

Jump

Fall + Land

Idle on wall

Jump from wall

Here's the current version if anyone wants to see it in action (arrow keys to move): https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7669529/S/index.html

I'm definitely planning on toning down the stuck-to-wall idle animation, there's just way too much movement. I also haven't implemented the jump animation yet- I can't seem to make the anticipation work well with gameplay. Trying to strike a balance between a jump with a lot of impact and very responsive controls.

(This is mostly animation-related at the moment, but I'll eventually be looking for feedback on background pixels and general game design stuff. Would this be better off in the “Top Secret” section?)

Pixel Art / [NSFW] Samus

Full disclosure: No artistic nudes here. This is a straight-up fetish piece. While it's not actually explicit, it's absolutely sexually charged, so I understand if the community feels uncomfortable with this being here. If there's any objection I'll gladly ask for this thread to be removed... however I'd really appreciate some help first, haha.

So yeah, this is an xmas gift for a friend of mine that likes tentacles and Samus. :U

Spoiler'd for extra caution

Just to be clear, the idea here is that the action is completely consensual- there's more than enough negative stuff like this out there. I'd rather Samus be clearly enjoying herself here, despite not being completely in control. Does that make sense? I know her expression needs work for that to be the case though.

Obviously it's still pretty loose/sketchy in most places, but I figured it's better to ask for help early on. Colors are super WIP, I know the ramps are really segmented right now. Still slowly adding/tweaking colors. I'm really looking to improve my understanding of metal and reflections on this one.

Just testing out some animations for an enemy. Shooting and idle, respectively.

I like how the squash/stretch on the shooting animation came out. Not really happy with the leaves at all. I'm planning to animate them a bit, but my attempts at subpixel animations just turn out noisy. Maybe I need a third color?

The idle's a bit dull as well, but I'm not sure how to liven him up without making him too distracting.

All crits welcome!

Another self-portrait from me... kind of. (Hope I don't seem narcissistic by now, haha)

I'd say it's about 80% done, but it still looks "muddy" to me. I think I oversimplified the shading in some places and overcomplicated others, and I've been looking at it too long to tell which is which. Also I'm not sure if the outline on the face is flattening the image too much. :/

For my face I used a mirror for reference, and for the sun-tentacle-rays I mocked this up in 3ds max.

Hey guys, I just (kind of) finished another modular level kit type thing.
(linked due to somewhat large images)

It's basically done, but there is one thing that's been bothering me about it- it's this awful transition between the "wall" tiles.

The reason I have the border of it end in stone is so it can transition into the floor above it. But you can see I get that silly line down the center when they're back to back.

Here I tried to do away with the stone part to fix it, but I'm worried it makes the border between the floor and walls too straight. What do you guys think, am I just worrying about nothing here?

Oh, and I might as well show my textures for critique if you guys feel like it, I could probably use some advice on the grass.
