Pixel Art / UPDATE* C64 space cow
« on: January 12, 2011, 06:23:44 am »
oi!  it's been a damn long time since i pixeled anything.  i was looking at some galleries on pixeljoint and saw this right here and i thought i'd try out c64 wide pixels.  scanned a sketch and ended up here.  i'm going to stop working on it for tonight because i gotta work in the morning, but i thought i'd see if i was doing it right and all that.  also, i'd love some tips.  i'm just jumping between my sketch and helm's piece right now as a method of learning.  and as always, i'm going to have a hard time coloring this thing. (edit: and i thought i'd mention that those dark red pixels are just meant to keep me from breaking the restrictions, because that's the best method for me to tell right now.)

here's the original sketch.

Thanks!

and uh, thanks to imageshack too.

« on: July 23, 2009, 08:48:48 am »
hey guys and gals.  everytime i browse this forum i get inspired to pixel something.

and besides, punaji is closed.  bless her heart.  :[

anyway, onward

i started this an hour ago and i'm still going.  i thought i'd just post it up for suggestions

based off this sketch i did earlier in the day

i'd like to make my pixels look more like my sketches, but i'm always afraid of using too many colors.  i'm kinda pushin my own limits with the skin tones on this one.

C&C por favor

i'll post updates

Pixel Art / zabord bird
« on: April 02, 2009, 09:51:17 pm »
oi!

i've not posted here in a while, but that's also 'cause i haven't pixeled in a while.  in any case, i started pixeling this character off a sketch i did recently.  here's my progress so far.

ignore the two colors above the bird.  i only used the bottom one anyway.
he's meant to be viewed at 2x:

(zoomed for the firefox users)

i wanted him to look more like the sketch but started moving away from it, as you can see.  no legs.

i'd absolutely love some crits.  i took too long picking the colors. :[

Pixel Art / [WIP] i want booty
« on: July 09, 2008, 12:47:49 am »
pirate game i'm starting.  c&c por favor.

i played around with colors a lot as you can see.  mostly having trouble making shiny coins (those yellow plastic dixie plates.)  the sprite isn't always going to be naked, but i want him to work that way.  i'm probably going to scrap those tiny ones and just focus on the larger sprites.  i think i'm getting a little better using colors, but help is still very appreciated.

thanks

don't know where to go with skin tones.  i havent pixeled in a while, so the techniques are lost...or they were never there to begin with.

oh and he'll be holding a lantern which totally changes the lightsource i initially had in mind.

Pixel Art / Vespa...*Things...*
« on: February 06, 2007, 06:02:24 am »
Current (mine <----> helm's)

Been getting ideas of a game flowing through my head, and so I decided to go with it.  this is the main sprite, a female, who rides a vespa scooter (which i'll work on afterwards.)  Inspired by, you guessed it, FLCL.

EDIT -

I really wanted a hip color scheme, for the character's personality.  I'm a bit disappointed the legs turned out so symmetrical, because i'm no good with dynamic poses.  Some things that bother me: don't want to use a darker version of the base for any of the shades (I'm content with the hair), want to avoid outlines in the final product while still keeping the piece noticeable in a bright backdrop...

i've attemtped moving the base hues into blue for shades, but mspaint really makes it troublesome since i can't mix or adjust colors.

Any suggestions?  I'm going to animate this after i get the base finished.

Thanks!

Pixel Art / 7z - WIP
« on: November 25, 2006, 12:12:31 am »
Just something I started to doodle and decided to clean it up.  Any help and suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks.  I really had to get going so I thought I'd post it before I leave and see what I could change when I get back.  Coloring is always a problem for me, but I also think the man's face is a bet out of proportion.

Pixel Art / Zeagull help
« on: November 11, 2006, 04:40:41 am »
Created this for the Chimera challenge, but I stopped after losing motivation from its lack of interesting...I don't know.  I like how the wing turned out, but everything else, including the colors aren't working for me.  I certainly don't want to make it just a bland black and white (as most seagulls and zebras are.)  Any crits or suggestions would be appreciated; I always get a lot out of posting a colored piece for crits, and I learned some great things with my "zombie" piece I last posted here, as well as my need for help with anatomy (on the kaiser.)

Pixel Art / Anatomy help, again?
« on: October 21, 2006, 11:50:56 pm »

The left leg seems...odd.  This is after trying different looks to it.  I've searched google for some refs but nothing helpful.  Whether or not I color this depends on many things...but I'm thinking about it.

General Discussion / Pixel Filters anyone?
« on: August 24, 2006, 12:40:57 am »
Could someone maybe add a pixelized filter to this piece:

I'm trying to prove a point that someone traced because that person said they completely pixeled this piece:

It's obvious they didn't though and both images are exactly the same...  Anyway, I don't have any high tech art programs, so I can't really apply a filter.
