Pixel Art / Looking for critique on some game art (gifs)
« on: May 11, 2022, 05:26:10 pm »
Last time I posted here was like 5 years ago, and looking at my art from back then makes me kind of embarrassed lol

Please let me know if posts like this aren't allowed.

But anyway, I'm looking for opinions on some game artwork. I have the following gifs from Unity (Please ignore the banding, it's pretty much the only way to keep file sizes down). The game has no background yet, but the idea is for it to be an underground forest, hence why the lighting is dark:

The scene is just a random scene I've set up to experiment with the art, and not anything for the final game. I'm also not decided on whether the lighting and bloom should be pixelated or not.

Lighting enabled:

Lighting disabled:

There's also the following sprite sheet, please ignore how messy it is.

The palette is also here, I'm looking for advice on whether I should make my own palette or not:

Just recently got back into pixel art after a break and made this gun. Does anyone have any criticism for it?

Pixel Art / Another Spaceship (Need criticism!)
« on: January 28, 2018, 11:28:55 pm »
Been a while since I posted here, still a very big beginner with this thing but I've started on another spaceship. Specifically, a hovering cargo ship kind of thingy.

I'm mostly looking for criticism on the shading (and anything else you can think of!), right now it's limited (you'll notice block colours in places), but the only reason for that was so I could try and get perspective down.

Anything else you can give me advice on would be great, I've been trying to get back into this sort of thing again and I've been struggling with it a lot. :)

EDIT: I did try to keep as little colours as possible, but in places this was a bit hard, so there are more than 5 greys occasionally.

Pixel Art / Opinions/Critique?
« on: August 08, 2017, 07:35:54 pm »
So using the tips/advice and critique on my last post I came up with this spaceship for the game I'm working on. It's meant to be a sort of cargo ship, and done using simplistic shading/colouring. Can anyone give me some advice or critique on it?

One obvious thing I can think of is making the larger engine's front end fit flush with the spaceship more, since it sort of just "stops" now.

Pixel Art / Help with a spacey background!
« on: August 08, 2017, 06:00:27 pm »
So I'm trying to come up with a Spacey kind of background for the main menu of this game, but anything I do doesn't look too good. I'm not sure exactly where to start or how to make it look better, and my biggest problem comes with it having to be still, since if I have it scroll it, it will just look mirrored when I match each side up so it's flush, if you know what I mean.

Does anyone have any advice on stuff I could do?

Unpaid Work / Artist needed for a few tilesets.
« on: July 27, 2017, 07:36:26 pm »
Hi!

So with this Metroidvania game I'm working on, I'm finding it very difficult to come up with the some tilesets needed. Specifically, for the surface of the planet/some ruins which I also need tiles for. Most other stuff I can do, but these are really making me struggle, so I thought i'd ask here.

Now before I start, yes, I can't pay. Mostly. I may be able to pay a little (Probably up to £10/$15), since I don't have much money to begin with, but if anyone could actually be kind enough to help me I'd be very grateful.

As for specifics, you can go wild with what you do for them. They just need to be 32x32 pixels.

Pixel Art / Need Opinions and Advice!
« on: July 18, 2017, 01:57:11 pm »
So I'm trying to make a sort of power station kind of area for a platformer I'm working on, but I don't like what I've done and can't seem to get anything right.

I sort of imagined it being pretty bright with a lot of animations and all that, but I can't get anything I like. It just looks too... Grey. If you get what I mean. If anyone could give me some advice on things I should do to make this thing look better, that would be great. Thanks.

(Really sorry about not sending just the pixel art! I'm kinda busy right now, so I don't have time to cut out just the pictures of the 2 rooms, also, the yellow on the "pipes" is usually a lot brighter, it glows from a darker yellow to a lighter yellow and the default tile for it is just the darker one.)

PS: The game has a pretty lighthearted and not too serious tone to it, which is the reason I need it like this anyway, so keep that in mind if you come up with anything.

PPS: I still need to add backgrounds, which is the reason it's completely black. If anyone has any ideas for that, that'd be great aswell!

General Discussion / Alien Planet Tileset
« on: July 11, 2017, 03:23:33 pm »
Hi!
So I'm trying to make a tileset for an underground cave system on an alien planet, but I can't come up with anything. I have a vague idea how to do rocks but I'd love for it to be original.
Does anyone have any advice or tips?
Thanks!
(Not sure if it's my phone or the text is really big. If it is, sorry about that!)

General Discussion / Making a Rotating Planet
« on: July 08, 2017, 12:00:53 am »
Hi!
So I've started work on another game, and I'm having some troubles with making a planet that can rotate, since the whole perspective thing with spheres isn't yet completely down for me, and it'll be even harder with things that aren't a material with an easy-ish to draw spherical shading.

Does anyone have any tips on how I could accomplish this? Examples? Anything like that?

Thanks!

Pixel Art / Oddly shaped ship shading help.
« on: June 06, 2017, 09:42:49 pm »
Hi.

So as said in one of my posts, which was... God. I think about 3 months ago now? I said I was fairly new to pixel art. Anyways, that's not the subject for this post.

I recently got back into making pixel art after giving up for a while, it was too frustrating, and then exams happened, but I've started it again and I think I'm doing okay.

So my problem here lies in the fact I don't know how to shade this spaceship. The main body of the ship is pretty much shaped how you would see one of those stereotypical clip art rockets, but I can't figure out how to shade that. Can anyone show me, tell me, or give me advice?

Not sure if that would have worked, probably.
(Thank you Silenia!)
PS:

Any critiques on the other shading, E.G., wings and engines, would be nice too. Thanks.

PPS:

Sorry if I snap at you or come off as moody, it's sort of late here, haha.
