Pixel Art / Skull Pit Revisted.
« on: February 16, 2009, 07:05:36 am »
Hey all,

I haven't posted on here in a couple of years, so I doubt anyone remembers me.  Anyhow, I've been working in the industry for the past couple of years and haven't had much time for my own stuff.  I recently came across a little free time and decided to redo one of my older pieces I did prior to industry experience.  I've learned a lot of tips from my co-worker Tsugumo so I hope it shows.

This is the version I did in 2007

This is the revised version from this weekend.

On a seperate note, when applying to a studio do you think it would be a good idea to show your progression over the span of several years in your portfolio, or just the most recent strongest work?

General Discussion / Console/Handheld Mock-Up Reference Guide
« on: April 21, 2007, 04:00:27 pm »
I thought since mock ups are quite popular it might be nice if there were a reference guide to create accurate mock-ups for different classic and modern consoles as well as handhelds that push pixels.  Things such as resolution, colour limitations, tile size, etc... If there is already a thread for something like this I apologize, but I couldn't find one.

I'm not too familiar with them myself, which is partially why I'm posting this, but I'm sure that many of you have worked on or experimented with a variety of these platforms and it would be great if you could share this information for those who wish to do accurate console mock-ups or actual games using the limitations of these consoles/handhelds.

Thanks,

-Fry

Pixel Art / Mock Up
« on: March 29, 2007, 09:18:34 pm »

I was bored today and decided to create a mock-up screenshot of a modern Golden Axe type game with RPG elements.

I seem to have a disorder where I start new things without finishing older projects.  Gonna go work on my running fighter sprite now.

Pixel Art / Tree [WIP]
« on: March 26, 2007, 06:43:55 pm »

I was looking at fixing up some of my other work and revamping some animations today, but my i've suddenly caught a bad cold and think i'd likely just end up making them look worse... I decided to play around with a tree instead.  Any comments or suggestions would be very appreciated.

Pixel Art / My very first fighter sprite.
« on: March 23, 2007, 10:31:28 pm »

I was browsing Tsugumo's Tutorials the other day and was really impressed by all the fighter sprite content.  I also realized I had never actually tried making one, so here he is.  I call him Warrick.  I might polish this up and do a few more little animations for fun, it was a blast working on.

I decided to make a portrait for him too... Choose yer fighter!

General Discussion / Photoshop Colour Problem
« on: March 23, 2007, 04:24:06 pm »
For some reason the images I save never appear the same as the pallette I was working with in Photoshop.  They usually end up much darker and garish than how it appeared while I was working on it.  It's annoying having to constantly adjust the colours in photoshop so that they look how they should outside of the program and when I upload them onto the net.  It has nothing to do with the format i'm saving the files, any format will appear lighter than it actually should... and it's only with photoshop.

Just wondering if anyone knows a solution to possibly unify the colour settings for Photoshop and all other applications/viewers?

Thanks,

Pixel Art / [WIP] Action RPG Sprite
« on: March 20, 2007, 04:44:14 pm »

I'm having a lot of difficulty with this guy for a battle stance.  His legs in particular, I originally wanted to give him kind of a weight shifting bounce, something like what a boxer might have... On the other hand, I don't want it to be overly exaggerated and distracting either.  I was considering removing leg movement altogether considering it seemed to work rather well for a lot of the sprites in Breath of Fire 2.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Pixel Art / [WIP] New Avatar
« on: March 15, 2007, 08:57:37 pm »

I felt so left out without having an avatar like the majority of you talented people, so I whipped this up quickly.  In much need of polishing, but at least it's something for now.  :P

Pixel Art / The Skull Pit
« on: March 14, 2007, 08:19:08 pm »

Hello, I havn't posted much on here..

I've recently been inspired to toss together a pixel portfolio.  This is my first piece which I call "The Skull Pit", spent about 11-12 hours so far.  I essentially treated it as an animation layout background...  This is my first real attempt at something like this.

Anyhow, any tips, criticism or comments on how to make this look as portfolio quality as possible would be greatly appreciated.
