Pixel Art / big monster animation...
« on: April 20, 2006, 04:53:43 pm »
Well I can't say I've ever put much effort into animation at a small scale so this has been quite a challenge.
Its still very much a WIP, theres no detail or highlighting yet, I've just been concentration on the animated parts. If you see any errors, please let me know at this stage!

I'm thinking about adding a bit of belly wobble, but I'm not sure how it'd look.
Oh this is for a minigame I hope to do btw.

thanks

Pixel Art / ghost of the lost drummer boy...
« on: April 12, 2006, 03:57:47 pm »

After looking through the king of spriters thread, I felt I should give something a go myself, as so far I've always avoided doing anything too human/humanoid in pixels.
I don't know anything about fighter sprites, but I was hoping my ignorance might work to my advantage and not slot me into a predefined style.

it could still do with a bit of work so c&c welcome as always.

Pixel Art / luminous goo study
« on: April 12, 2006, 01:45:18 pm »
ok so i didnt really study some luminous goo, but I do have this finger puppet monster made out of luminous greeny yellow rubber, and I keep thinking i'd like to try and capture some of its properties.

this is a section of its arm close up:

and this is just a quick random sprite using the effect and pallette:

I think for something larger like the sprite, a few inbetween colours wouldbe helpful.
not sure its something Id use again, but its all practice.

Pixel Art / parallax backgrounds wip
« on: April 04, 2006, 02:56:24 pm »
This is a game Im working on aside from other projects.
Apart from a few failed attempts I've never really tried putting together the landscapes I envision for game ideas, but after a walk along the clifftops I was inspired to give this one a go.

Heres all the elements together.

And the individual layers:

The paralax scrolling occurs vertically as well as horizontally, so currently when you go right up into the air all you see is sea, so I want to add one more layer at the back, of some sort of shoreline, and probably some rocks/islands in the water. Oh and theres also some clouds higher up.
I'm still not sure about the sky and sea, I like the lower colours, but i'm wondering if I should ditch the dither, add in a few more colours and just band them straight across. Currently the topmost dithered part is distracting so thats definately going.
Any other c&c most welcome,
thanks.

Pixel Art / Isometric bot...thing
« on: March 18, 2006, 12:30:20 am »
I don't spend any time just practicing spriting so I thought I'd try something for fun. The main thing I wanted to do was use a more conventional and logical process, as I have the habit of lining one bit, then colouring it before I've even finished measuring out the proportions. Also I'm generaly bad at stances so i thought I'd practice with a robot.

and this was the process:

any crits apreciated. thanks
