Pixel Art / [C+C] Another low-res RPG character
« on: July 12, 2016, 06:41:57 pm »
Hey everyone,
just because it's nowhere near Christmas I decided to have a bash at making a pretty standard top-down RPG based character. Obviously there are hundreds in the world, but you can't beat trying out something new:

I wondered if I could possibly get some feedback on how things 'generally' look, be it anatomy or key placement of eyes, etc. At this stage I'm just tinkering with various types and quite enjoyed where this one was going so thought I'd follow it up.

Anything you can give me would be massively appreciated.

And, as always, stay classy.

Cheers

Pixel Art / [CC] 2D Shoot 'em up readability
« on: June 21, 2016, 09:39:43 pm »
Hey everyone,
bit of a different kettle of fish to the weekends post of the pixely tower thing, I'm also working on a sneaky little project that's basically your usual 2D shoot 'em up.

So far a few ship concepts have come out but I chose this one for now (hope the colours don't blind anyone!):

Basically I'm just wondering above all else how that reads to people who don't currently have a bad case of eye-strain. The game's going to be pretty low-rez, but I've just been looking at selective outlining to make the thing stand out in a variety of situations.

I think the worst one on there is the red background, as obviously that clashes with the actual ships colour. So not sure how one might get around that...

Anyway, if you've got the time feel free to bash us a comment or two. Only way to get better, right?

Thanks guys!

Pixel Art / [CC] A first-time piece (Towers)
« on: June 19, 2016, 11:59:48 am »
Hello everyone,
I knocked together this piece over the weekend and are looking for general critique on technique, usage of colour, readability, etc if you've got time to deal some out to a newbie. Frankly I got way too ambitious for a beginner, so I believe that I stretched myself too thin.

I also did a bad thing and used a 'bit' of a photoshop glow on the sign at the top of the main building. So in future I'll be leaving things like that right out!

Literally just getting in to the swing of things, I've rage quit once in the last few days but are determined to keep at it!

Thanks in advance and stay classy.

Pixel Art / [WIP][C+C] Mockup of 2D platformer
« on: September 27, 2015, 10:16:01 pm »
Hey all,
Happy to finally pluck up the courage to ask for some C&C on this little project I'm working on, this is my first time here, so I'm brickin' it a little bit... :|

The idea generally is a 2D platformer, but I'm quite new to the way of the pixel, and as you may notice can't seem to make the characters 'pop' out of the scene. Which as you'd expect is ideally what you'd want when playing a game.

Just a final mention to go out to http://quale-art.blogspot.co.uk/ for offering much inspiration when coming to constructing them there dwarves. Their proportions I found work pretty well with the surroundings.

Any help/comments would be massively appreciated anyway.

Many thanks! :)
