Pixel Art / Texture Practice
« on: March 31, 2016, 11:05:44 am »
Howdy been a while since i did anything (not 9 years but whatever) ive been a bit of a lurker for the past little bit so i thought id try something new.  Normally im the type of person to do characters so i thought id try tiles a bit.  The tiles arent intended to go into a game and actually be tilable.  Theyre just practice.  I also couldnt find a good sidescroller dirt and grass tile for the life of me.  The first one is supposed to be earthy stone with grass, the second is mountainy jagged stone the third one is rough rocks that are kind round and the last one was supposed to be some kinda muscley brain type thing.  Critiques and tips would be greatly appreciated.

Pixel Art / [C&C] Seated Pose
« on: August 08, 2015, 08:34:05 pm »
I created this pose to work on foreshortening (a little bit) as well as drawing people.  Here is the reference i used and i kinda cheatsy doodled by copying it pretty closely but stuffing my own character into it.The refererence is of killua from hunter x hunter sitting.  I am completely open to critiques and would love to hear what people have to say about it and how to improve it.
Here is my rendition:

*also how do you put something under spoiler so its not so huge like my ref?

Pixel Art / Dithering Portrait
« on: August 06, 2015, 11:13:13 pm »
I am rather new to the idea of dithering and i figured there was no better way to get better than to try practicing it.  I did a front view portrait of a man's face with an attempt at the strategy of dithering.  I would like some advice not only on my dithering techniques but on any other problems spotted with the art piece.  Thanks in advance.

UPDATE: Thanks for the crit Joe.  I see what you mean with the why i would want to practice and learn dithering even without the technological limitations, the reason is because i like the looks of pixels and it also reminds me of an older game i played where its a hybrid of both dithering and modern colours.  The banding issues i tried to resolve (those that i could see) but my eye is clearly not trained enough to spot many of them.  The thread that you showed me to was very helpful in learning what banding was and how to solve it but i would greatly appreciate an edit to see what i am truly doing wrong.  Finally with the anatomy i moved the eyes of the character down only 1 pixel (sorry ) but i only did one because i wanted to maintain my style as well as the character.

Pixel Art / [C&C] BackpackerWalkCycle
« on: July 18, 2015, 04:20:41 am »
I just finished this backpacker's walk cycle.  I would like to know if there is anything glaringly wrong with it that should be changed.  I myself am quite happy with it and dont see anything that needs changing.  Also are there certain places in the cycle where i should extend the frames to make it more realistic like slight pauses?  Thanks in advance   (ps i fixed the weird pixel glitches on the shoulder and the changing length of the knee)

Pixel Art / [C+C] [WIP]Cant figure out this guys legs/hips
« on: July 15, 2015, 09:50:12 pm »
Ive been trying and i really cant figure out this guys leg/hip armor.  He is supposed to be a dwarf (the reason for his stout proportions) but the armor just isnt working there.  I like the shins but the other part has got me super puzzled.  I tried a armor skirt but it looked to silly for me.  *ignore the girl btw*

Pixel Art / KawaiiBearMurderScene C&C (does that mean critique?)
« on: July 10, 2015, 12:24:47 am »
This is a painting of the man who almost discovered who was behind the mask.  The problem that im facing is 1 the composition and everything else thats usually a problem and 2 that in his right hand there is supposed to be a bag with the mans head obviously in it.  It didnt turn out so obvious.  Thanks  ;D

« on: July 06, 2015, 12:28:55 am »
A worker heard a noise in the factory so he grabbed his gun to check it out.  Once again i would like critiques on my work cuz im new and i dont think it read well where i wanted the two focal points to be the man with the gun and the shadow at the garage door. :-\ Thanks
