Pixel Art / Looking for sprite feedback
« on: May 20, 2015, 02:16:55 pm »
So I've been working on this sprite for a while now. Here are some things I want to know:

-does the walk motion look right? should I add more frames? I think that his leg looks like it might be stretching too far but i'm not sure...
-is the bounce motion right?
-is there anything weird or odd about my sprite? the face? his hands?
-Does he need more shading or highlighting?

Yeah I know he's kinda boring but I've just been messing around with getting the animation right. I can make him look more interesting later. Lets hope the animation shows up here, it was made with PyxelEdit and is 32 x 32px.

General Discussion / Flip & Rotation in Graphics Gale
« on: April 29, 2015, 02:06:24 am »
So I'm trying to use the flip and rotation tool in Graphics Gale. I know where they are and they work but once I try and press any button from the tool bar the image disappears? I want to make a reverse sprite animation, since I only have one that shows my character running forward. Thanks.

General Discussion / Help using Tiled
« on: April 25, 2015, 02:46:54 am »
Hello,

So I've reached the point where I want to test some graphics that I've made from various programs like Graphics Gale and Pyxel Edit. I've read that Tiled is really good for this and I thought I would try and make a few levels using my own created tiles, mostly from Pyxel Edit. Since I use that for all terrain stuff. I've never used Tiled before and I'm having trouble importing the images from Pyxel Edit. I can't see any import options in file, only export. Also if I go into map and add external tile set when I browse my computer for the Pyxel files they seem to turn up as grey on the screen. Tiled doesn't seem to recognise them. I have files with both the original .pyxel ending and ones with .png. Also I'm assuming that file should only contain one tile right? Obviously I'm very new at all of this and require some help in becoming familiar with these programs. If you understand how Tiled works then please respond. Thanks in advance. (I know I'm probably looking in all the wrong places since I don't know the program)

General Discussion / Strange blurring problem
« on: April 22, 2015, 10:55:14 am »
Hello, it's me again. So I've been playing around with the full version of Graphics Gale. I've figured out how onion skinning works now so I've been busy making some sprites. I've recently come across another problem with GG though. The program works fine during the initial animation process, however when I save and exit the program and return later I find that every frame from the second one becomes really blurry. Basically it's like the current frame also shows the previous frame (except without onion skin so it looks like a real mess) and basically screws up the entire animation sequence. This is extremely annoying when I want to go back and change something later on when I have more time. This only happens when I quit the program.

Also I'm wondering how do I go about making a sprite sheet in GG? I read a guide where it said that you have to save each frame as a png format, then click on custom grid and copy and paste each frame inside the blue squares. However I can only ever get one blue square to appear on the grid which covers the entire thing. (Can you do this with gif?)

Example showing a two-frame walking sequence:

First frame without blur:

Second frame with blur:

I'm really confused and obviously a complete noob. So please help me out!

Er I didn't expect the images to appear so big cos it wasn't like that when I took the screen shot.

General Discussion / GraphicsGale help
« on: March 13, 2015, 07:06:19 am »
Hello I'm new to these forums. I'm currently testing out a program called GraphicsGale (Free version) which I really like. Anyway I'm running the program on my Mac via parallels and I have a few questions. Firstly, I'm almost at the point where I want to start animating stuff for a game but I've read that the free version doesn't allow you to do this? Although some people have said that you can but you can't save them properly. Which is true? Also when creating tile maps do the sprites have to all be the same size? Like can I create a 16x16 image of some bricks and a 64x64 image of a tree, will that work? Also I'm having problems with copy and paste in this program. I know where the functions are but I can't seem to do this on my Mac. I think that this is because the program was originally designed for PC the commands are slightly different. How do I change this so that it will work on my Mac? I'm assuming it's file>preferences>key but I'm not seeing any options to change the commands and what's the difference between copy[32bpp] and copy display image? Thanks.
