Pixel Art / Ninja
« on: March 30, 2016, 06:50:52 pm »
Hey guys  ;D

So I saw tsej's thread and I was inspired to do something of the sort.

I chose going for a ninja though, not a samurai.

And here are the result and progress:

I'm going to change the pose, because I didn't use a ref for it, it was what I had in mind but it is weird or at least the way he holds the sword.
So I'm going to play with the poses and upload an update probably tomorrow.

But any feedback regarding anything from colors to anatomy to idk what is obviously welcome!

Pixel Art / Fish [C&C]
« on: March 23, 2016, 07:49:03 pm »
Hey there  :)

So I was trying to make a fish for a game. Now, I was told the small version was hard to read and that I should go for a bigger sized sprite and make my way from there.

This is the original:

And this is the bigger sprite:

At this point, really, anything is welcome  :'( ???
Thanks in advance!

Pixel Art / Sprites for a roguelike I'm making [C+C]
« on: February 06, 2016, 08:04:29 am »
Hey, so I opened this thread yesterday, and I thought I at least should try to come up with something.
So 16x16 speaking I came with this kind of sytle:

And 32x32 with this:

Now, I think I better stick with the 16x16 because it's easier or at least simpler.
But I do think that it somewhat lacks depth, moreso I think it's quite hard animating such small sprites.

On the other hand, the 32x32 has much more room for improvment but that what makes it harder to maintain because you have to have more detailed style...

Before I actually start with the game I want to be at least somewhat confident with the style I'm going to use.
So any critic, advice or whatnot are totally welcome!

Thanks :) I want to try pixeling because no one else that I know can help me with it and I find it much more appealing than 3D for indie games.

EDIT:

So here I'll keep updating the latest versions:

General Discussion / About character design
« on: February 05, 2016, 08:49:03 pm »
Hey there,

So my friend and I are working on a game(roguelike-ish) and I thought on making the tiles 16x16.
Now, the entities doesn't have to be the size of the tiles but can't be too big also so I thought about making the character 16x16 or 16x20.

But as I'm mainly a coder, not an artist, I don't really know anything about designing characters and especially this small.
So I came here looking for advices, what styles are fitting for this size, the game is a side-scroller platformer but the I want the character to have a slight tilt in perspective.
I'd really appreciate some advices and then I could try some things and post them here for critics.

Thanks in advance!

Pixel Art / Mech
« on: October 12, 2014, 12:16:42 pm »
Hey  :)

I tried to do some kind of mech thingy:

I'm yet again not really confident about the shading as I suck at shading things :P
I think the overall shape is fine.

Hmm that's it for now, I know there isn't much to say because it's a small sprite but I'd like to hear your opinions and critics.

Edit:
So I searched for a cylinder like metal plate shadings and I came up with these:
And

I used Starbound's space train for reference as you can see the top of the train is cylinder like.

Pixel Art Feature Chest / GR#194 - Helmet - Shading
« on: June 09, 2014, 08:23:07 pm »
Hmm I tried to draw a roman helmet after a big break from drawing..
It is also my first time shading a metal so it probably not perferct...

This is the first shading try:

I asked a friend of mine and she said that the shading should be more clean because it's metallic so I tried to clean it a bit.
But the cheek shield bothered me so I tried to reshade it but now it's not so reaistic.. And I don't know how to fix it..

If you could help me with the shading and the hair on the top(because I don't even know how to start it) I'd be grateful ^^

P.S
I'm pretty much new to pixel arting... Just so you know..
