Pixel Art / Platformer character
« on: June 13, 2010, 08:03:28 pm »
I recently drew this character based sort of loosely on a drawing that my brother did.  It's been a long, long time since I did anything sidescrollerish, especially running (this is probably my best running animation ever...).  Anyway, I could probably use crits on the general design, and definitely on the running.  It just looks...wrong, somehow, but I'm not exactly sure why.

Thanks guys!

2D & 3D / It's like pixel art...
« on: November 08, 2009, 04:01:51 am »
I've been working in a particular pixel art-ish genre of digital art for quite a while now, and I wanted to post a few pieces here to see what insights you guys might have (there aren't nearly as many people in this particular sub-sub-genre/community as there around here).  The things concerned are 32x32 item icons as well as characters/objects in a sort of oblique-ish perspective.  They tend towards being both detailed and high in color count, which requires a certain tightness that just painting and resizing really can't accomplish reliably.  Basically, I usually start out by working in straight pixels, and then (sometimes/usually) port to photoshop to adjust the colors, contrast, darken/lighten certain areas, etc., and then clean it up with basic pixel tools.  I'm only going to post a few here because most of what I do is for a not-yet-released project.  Anyway, I really like it because, in some ways, it's like having some of the rigor of pixel art but without limits other than size.
So, a few random things.  A werewolf, a skate (item, not monster/environmental) a bird skull (it's an item, but whether they're in perspective or not varies based on mood and precedent) a couple of shields and a couple of axes.

Pixel Art / Little wyvern
« on: September 22, 2008, 05:14:07 pm »
Here's a tiny piece that I've been working on for a strategy game: a wyvern.  Kinda a quick thing, but I'd like it to be good.

I'm not too great at animation, as you probably noticed.

Pixel Art / Another portrait
« on: November 10, 2007, 03:46:42 am »
This is my first shot at a Pixeljoint weekly challenge type thing:

Pimento Jim, the food warrior with the head of a, well, pimento.

Sadly, I only have a passing knowledge of anatomy so I'm sure that there are problems much deeper than his three fingered digits...  Also, working with only ten colors was kinda difficult for me, so I eagerly await what y'all have to say.

Uh, never mind him...  Here's a new portrait I've made (well, actually an older one that I've edited) of Schleiden, a botanist who did stuff with cell theory.

I referenced this picture: http://home.datacomm.ch/biografien/images/schleiden.jpg

Pixel Art / A Portrait
« on: August 21, 2007, 12:19:49 am »
Hello!  This is my first thread and post on Pixellation, and before I get to the actual portrait, I just wanted to say how impressed I am by the general quality of the stuff on this forum; it's given me a lot more motivation to try stuff out and to improve my pixel art skills.

That said, here is something I made recently, a small portrait I made referenced from the picture found here:

Any comments and criticisms would be greatly appreciated!
