Pixel Art / Morning Watchman --WIP

My first try with the good ol' C64 palette.

I'm discovering what makes this palette so great. Leaving out a couple colors changes the entire mood of the resulting palette.  In the piece I'm trying to mostly use flat or 45 lines.

Anyway:

C+C away; I'd prefer critiques regarding anatomy.  Keep in mind that I'm trying to keep an elongated yet realistic face...not sure what to do about the top of the head yet, so stand by on that.

Hereafter this will be the place where I post pixels and sketches that I don't feel deserve their own topic.

General Discussion / Favorite Non-pixel Art

What is your favorite non-pixel-art art by anyone?

I really admire the colors and lighting of this painting by John Singer Sargent:

Thomas Cole is also a favorite of mine.  Some of his landscapes:

General Discussion / Choosing colors and pallettes

I've been looking at a lot of demoscene pics lately and, though I see many things that those pieces have that mine don't, a main aspect that confuses me is color selection.  I can't seem to get vibrant, living colors in my art, so I'd like to know if any of you use certain methods to select colors.  How should I go about it?  It'd be great to hear from a lot of people, especially artists like ptoing and Helm who's color selections I've admired for a long time.

Pixel Art / Isometric Tree Set
« on: December 16, 2005, 01:40:12 am »
About a month ago I got a PM from a guy who may or may not have been ElectricFox, the php web developer from electricfox.com.  He asked me to draw some iso trees for him.  I asked him a few questions about the project, but he never got back to me.  So I just started them anyway.  He originally asked for 10 trees, but I only got to 6 before I got fed up with the fact that I had as of yet recieved no response and left it at that.

However, I am mostly happy with the results that I got.  Maybe someday I will finish or expand this, I don't know.
