Pixel Art / FF's first flesh/hair attempt
« on: October 07, 2005, 11:58:55 pm »
Did a simple profile for this study.. Felt like creatin a mohawk for him, pretty annoying to keep that shade layer in for mohawk designs when light corners the spikes, haha.

10 colors + black, I know there are a few things wrong with him. My anatomic science wiz friend who is studying realism drawings says the neck should be curved more, but even by a few pixels it looks kind of odd, so I'm keeping it where it is unless you guys have a good reason. His eye didn't turn out well, I'll try to redo it but with the size like that and need of higher contrast shades, I don't know if I can get much more detail out of it. Nose seems a bit funky shaped, didn't want to leave it triangular, though. I had a hard time shading this guy with 4 colors.. but all in all it was fun. The hair texture looks alright but I'm sure I might be able to get some more out of it. As far as overall shading.. -sigh- Well I'm pretty sure its screwy. I don't really know how to fix that, though. The lighting on the face is the correct light source for the whole piece, so if something doesn't match that (undoubtedly) please make a comment.
Oh, and here's the nonedited lineart I drew out. Nonedited as in I didn't fix the double lines and small screw-ups.

C&C Greatly appreciated as it is my only learning method at this point.

Pixel Art / Skull + Swordfish Sprite need work.
« on: October 04, 2005, 02:26:57 am »
Well I'm getting addicted to this whole pixel art thing, some of the stuff in these forums is just amazing. I never thought people could do such wonders with tiny squares, pixel art is like a WAY better form of tile murals!

My next couple of items are trying to work on shading, low colors and smoothing shapes. Skull came out a little rougher than I wanted, though. As for Spyke's swordfish.. I know the saturations need fixed, it's a slightly pinker shade. (Or faded red, but thats just not manly.) C & C greatly appreciated on ANYTHING you see wrong with these as I am trying to learn. I'v looked over all the tutorials in the link under general, pretty good stuff.

Thanks,

Pixel Art / Newb Wants to Learn
« on: October 02, 2005, 02:35:30 pm »
Hey everyone, this would be my first post here.. I heard Pixelopolis had harsh c & c so I figure because Im inexperienced in both final products and skills I might be able to pick up a few things here.. Maybe even get.. dare I say it.. Better? My only pixel art has been additions and modifications to a 2D pixel art game, heh. I was going to post some of it but then I realised its not even presentable.. So I decided to start anew with a simple production.. A sword. Flat, not much to look at, but I need to learn metallic glaring and such. Oh, and I don't know about you guys, but I absolutely cannot stand isometric pixel art.. It ALL looks the same, theres no real flavor! Without further.. typing..

Its pretty bland.. As stated no blade glare, no background whatsoever, Im sure I also screwed up somewhere else.
Please leave some noniso pixel tutorials if you have any  8)
