Pixel Art / Mermaid [WIP]

Hi, I haven't been here in a while... but you guys are helpful with critiques and I need help on this piece. Originally this was meant to be for the Pixel Joint calendar challenge... but I used too many colors. Fail. XD So now it's just for fun. My problems are the rock... how in the heck do I go about shading this thing?! Also, anything else you want to nitpick, feel free. :) The mermaid I like, the scenery not so much... Help? :D


Updated!! -- would like some help on sky/water palettes or shading (and the rock still)

This is my squid character thing... Kamikaze Kalamari. (yay for misspelled words to create unnecessary alliteration)

I will tack this on. I just finished it. Portrait/sprite set of a character I named Cassandra Lion.
Experimenting with black outlines and simpler shading.

Aight, so I was trying to play with less colors... I did this sexy girlie with 15 I think? Is that too many for something like this? I am not used to trying to reduce color pallettes. Anyway, crits welcome. ;D

Also, I am working toward doing a small underwater scene since I am such a fish nut so I did these leetle feeshes. 6 colors each. Crits welcome on this as well.

Hey! I'm a n00b and this is my first pixel post here... it's also my first time to do a sprite or any kind of iso art. I think I did an okay job picking a lightsource and such but I am here to learn so ya'll be the judges... tell me what sucks. :)

It's kinda simple... and someone suggested hardwood floors but I couldn't get them to look like I wanted...
