Pixel Art / Lightbot (start screen WIP)
« on: October 09, 2011, 04:28:46 pm »
Hi everyone,

I haven't posted here in a long time! I was hoping I could get some critique on a start screen I am working on, before I spend any more time on it.
Mainly I am interested in getting the lighting right, but also the general technique - I don't usually work this big, nor in any sort of perspective like this, so I can use a few hints and tips! I have been working on the two pipes on the left so far to give an idea of what direction I am going in.

2D & 3D / Question: isometric in 3D
« on: September 01, 2010, 08:44:57 pm »
Hey guys.

I'm sorry if anyone's asked before; I browsed the forum for a bit and I couldn't quite find an answer.
While I am a pixel artist, my boyfriend is a 3D artist. We'd like to create a game together, just for fun and to improve our skill, but we've been struggling to find a way to properly combine our art genres.
Does anyone know how we could go about creating, for example, pixeled isometric tiles and buildings, in 3D? We're thinking maybe something towards the style of Settlers, Final Fantasy Tactics, or even Theme Hospital. I have 0 experience with 3D so I apologise if the answer's obvious - or if it is simply impossible; I don't know. The posts I've seen here in the forum are mainly characters, and I am not sure if the same concept applies (and if it does, how)...

Thanks,
Zenobia

Pixel Art / Happily (isometric buildings)
« on: September 12, 2009, 12:39:28 am »
(Sorry, it's almost 3 AM, so I am not sure how clear my writing is...)
Last summer I was dreading my last year of High School... so I came up with something stupidly happy to keep things bright: Happily. I'm not sure what it is. It's a game idea. A mockup. Practice. It's even a story. I won't bore you with all the fluffy details. Anyway... since it's about exactly a year ago, nostalgia made me start working on it again. I want to make more uncommon buildings...

But first, I want to improve the old ones. I started with one of the houses... but after about... it's been 2 hours now... it's rather obvious I haven't made a lot of progress. In fact, I am quite sure I used far too many colours on the roof by now. I've been experimenting with more realistic shapes (as opposed to straight square iso stuff), but I'm afraid it hasn't been going too well. I'd love some advice on that... and I need some hardcore critique to make this look awesome.

Edit: For comparison, my work file (with the old stuff): [here]

Pixel Art / Cute deck of cards

Well since I've been feeling terrible all week I haven't been able to do any serious work, pixel wise or school.
My head's fuzzy so I can't think of anything to say about this right now. I'd just like some critique.

Pixel Art / Christmas Competition Mockup
« on: December 03, 2007, 04:11:51 pm »
*takes a deep breath* I admit I am slightly scared to have this torn to pieces, but there's no other way to improve.

Anyway, this is my first ever try at a mockup and it's been great fun, only, I failed with the characters. I'm not really looking for critique on the top part, but those characters down there, they really bug me. I was going for a chibi anime sort of thing, but they just look creepy and awkward.
I'm obviously having a lot of trouble with the hands (and thus arms), so it'd be great if someone could tell me how to fix that (so far people only agreed they need to be fixed, but no one can quite explain how).
And then there's the other things of course like eyes, mouth, depth, the shading of the clothes, the light coming from the magic, etc. I -know- what's wrong, I just don't know what to do about it?

Right, also, the stupid swirls at the bottom are actually the character's names and they're supposed to be a mystery. Just saying, because they've been mistaken for terrible clouds.
Lets' see, what else. I'm also not too happy with the potion bottles and the shading on the kraken, the dithery stuff on the clouds and the big visible difference between the light and dark blue in the dark part of the sky.

I've evidently spent a lot of time on this already, but I've run out of solutions to my problems.
Ok, that should be enough explanation.
edit: and it's not my secret santa ^^; it for the competition thingie by Shonegold at dA, because I needed some distraction anyways.

Pixel Art / Critique my cow please
« on: May 17, 2007, 10:51:09 am »
For the Pixeljoint challenge ^_^

It has a stunning 37 colours, but nevermind that.
I really like my idea, hoewever, sadly it turned out a lot less nice than it should have. What reaaally bothers me is that I can't get the text to look right... tried to pixel it myself, tried about 20 pixel fonts... just... crap.
Also YES it's a .png file because I'll .gif it when it's finished. Sorry about that. And do you think I need to add blood?

I swore to myself I wasn't going to do this, and just take everything...

My shading style... not so neat, I know. Anatomy, dragons... not my thing.
*dives away* ack nevermind, just critique. I'll try not to cry.

Not .giffed yet as I obviously plan on editting more.
