Pixel Art / Gentleman smoking a pipe
« on: June 07, 2012, 09:00:33 pm »
I am currently working on a gentleman from around 1900. The goal is to animate him so he is smoking his pipe while talking to the audience.

He is a very wealthy and experienced explorer that has traveled to many places and seen many things.
He is actually a part of a larger picture, which I paused working on for a while. Now I'm back, but I want to solely focus on the character for now.

I'm still completely unsettled on the details such as what he is actually wearing (leaing towards some kind of expensive morning mantle), his actual face and hairstyle (most likely he'll get older with greyish hair) or how the chair looks like.

Some references:

Pixel Art / Adventurer's library
« on: March 01, 2012, 08:33:47 am »
I am currently working on a moodshot for a game. I cannot talk about the game yet, but I would be very welcome about feedback for the shot.
I want to show a rich gentleman from ~ 1900 in his personal library / smoking room.
He is a self-funded explorer, spending his time traveling to distant countries like south-america or afrika.

And these are the things I want to show in the picture:
- Him being very rich and a typical gentleman
- He is going on a lot of expeditions into unknown lands
- The time period of ~ 1900

Here is my first scribble, obviously everything is still in a very rough, sketchy state.
I am still focusing on composition and rough colors / lighting instead of details and polish of the individual objects.

Also, I am still trying to figure out a few objects to put into the scene, and trying to find proper references for things such as the carpet or especially the walls & windows.

Any input is highly appreciated.
Oh, the intended viewing resolution will be 200%

Pixel Art Feature Chest / GR#091 - Nordwand - Mockup
« on: January 30, 2012, 10:28:32 pm »
I am currently working on a gameplay mockup.
The game's working title is "Nordwand", and it is gonna be about climbing in the mountains, approx. 100 years ago.

It all started with this simple character:

The next step for me was to show a typical gameplay situation.

[EDIT] Updated creation steps.

Rough concept:

1st iteration:

2nd iteration:

3rd iteration:

4th iteration:

5th iteration:

I'm still missing HUD elements. Also I still want to try some very simple gradient for the sky background (darker towards the top..?)

I've been struggling a bit with the rock texture. I want to use a tiling texture for the rock because of technical / production related reasons (if the game is ever going to be made).

I'm pretty happy with the clouds, but unsure about the distant mountains - however I really do not want to put too much detail into them to not distract from the most important foreground.

The game is most likely gonna be played in 2x the resolution.

Feedback is highly appreciated.

Pixel Art / Very small game character
« on: June 17, 2011, 08:43:27 pm »
So I've been trying to go as small as possible with a gamecharacter for an isometric gameconcept I am currently working on.
I am also trying to keep the shape and colors of the character as minimalistic as possible.

My initial, loose inspiration for the character is this guy from Mad Max 2:

The result of my first approach was a success in terms of size and being able to make a isometric turnaround.

However, as I tried to animate the sprite it became apparent that this size just is too small to be animated in the way I need it.

So here is my new appproach with a slightly larger size.
This is all still very early so I am very interested in comments and feedback.

Pixel Art / [Nudity] Some work examples
« on: June 07, 2011, 10:27:29 pm »
Hello,

since I just recently joined the board I might as well throw out some stuff I did in the past and see what you guys think about it.

A homeless dude. This was the main character for some kind of adventure game about homeless people in Berlin I worked on for some time. Never came to something playable sadly.

Homeless dude digging in the garbage

Homeless dude being drunk. If I ever made a mockup trailer for this game, this would be the last thing it would show.

A character in the homeless game, obviously inspired by The big Lebowski

A viking

A really tiny character for another game concept I am currently tossing around.

Cheers
