General Discussion / The pointy sea
« on: October 30, 2007, 07:25:34 pm »
I was wondering if anyone could direct me to any nice articles, books, and/or tutorials on XNA games studio and/or C#. I know a few of you use it,  such as robotacon and maybe Jad but I'm not sure , and I just recently downloaded the program.

Pixel Art / A tree

I saw a very neat looking tree on the drive home from town today and though I would pixel it. Well, something close to it. How's it look?

I tried to make it transparent but I have no idea how to do that in Graphics Gale. Comments and crits appreciated. Possibly for B&W adventure game.

General Discussion / Learning the Language
« on: April 21, 2007, 12:48:33 am »
Ok, so over the years I have become pretty proficient in GML (woo...) and I want to start learning a more solid/flexible creation language. I know BASIC and Visual BASIC, anything past that I am clueless on. I know a lot about how code works and all of that jazz, I just need something to work with. C++ is a very big language to learn, and I hear that Java is the best to work with nowadays. Anyone know of what I should pick up or begin learning? This is more for hobby than commercial use, I like to mess around with code for fun.

Any suggestions?

Pixel Art / Alien creature

I was trying to strengthen my shading ability along with trying to break the left brain/right brain conflict. What it looks like, not how you think it should look. It started of from the eye and just sorta bloomed from there. It was fun  :)

Crits/comments?

Pixel Art / Trying some anatomy: The torso
« on: January 07, 2007, 10:21:44 pm »
After looking at a lot of threads involving anatomy and design, along with many of the threads made by Baccaman and Helm (thanks, your posts really help) I tried my hand at anatomy, palette choosing, and shading for the first time.

C+C welcome, although saying that is pretty redundant.

CURRENT:

Here is my shading practice:

Just wanna know if I'm heading in the right direction or not. I havn't really tried anything big yet, just simple techniques. Are there any books I can pick up on anatomy?

Pixel Art / [WIP]Metal dude
« on: December 13, 2006, 08:44:22 pm »
I tried to draw a sketch of a comical person who might listen to metal.

C&C totally welcome, as I do need to work on my skillz. I know the head looks weird,  and the shading is off. But that is all I can catch by myself.

General Discussion / Beginner.... ish
« on: December 11, 2006, 10:34:58 pm »
Well, I have always dabbled in a bit of pixel art ever since I was a small child, I'm excited to find a community on the subject. Well, the thing is I have always wanted to dive deeper into it, maybe a profession, I don't know, but I do also enjoy dabbling in some game creating. So, the thing is, I have the ideas in my head, but I have no idea how to put it on "canvas" per se :). What I am really lacking in is the human Anatomy and color theory, including palette choosing and such techniques. I also have to work on shading. Are there any guides about this on the net? Any good books to pick up? A lot of this is basic art concepts that I have trouble picking up on. I like to observe a lot and try to mimic what I see, and pick up some skills and techniques.

Anyway, hello all, my name is am_pm. Nice to meet you!
