Pixel Art / [WIP] Witch
« on: February 26, 2007, 06:47:51 pm »
Well, I decided, for some unknown reason, to pixel my best friend as a witch. Hopefully she doesn't read to much into the meaning. Anyway, This is just the first edit. I threw this down in one sitting and will come back and fix it up later. Any ideas of what to do about that eye? She's not squinty-eyed, as the pixels may lead you to believe

Working on an iso base and I thought I'd get feedback (especially on the front/back.)

Recent animation of mine. The character was made for a commercial game, but I didn't get the job. Oh well, they said the next game they are making I'd be perfect for and promised the gig to me.

Looks best at 2x. I think I need to add something to the right to offset the powerlines and pop the powerlines out more. I originally had his head tilt along with the rest of him, maybe I should go back to that? His legs... need help.

General Discussion / Issues with GraphicsGale...
« on: February 08, 2007, 02:09:24 am »
GraphicsGale has been acting kinda weird on me. I made an animation and for some reason, the frames leave "trails" on my transparent pixels... to clarify, look at this sprite of The Tick I made:

Ok, he SHOULD be wiggling his antenae twice, pausing, then winking. As you can see, his antenae are surrounded by the spillover of the other frames (mostly the black outline.) I tried fixing it, but it just saves it back that way. When editing the sprite, it looks normal execpt in the preview window, where it looks like what you see above. Also, if I hover my pen tool over a transparent sprite, it draws that pixel in the preview window. After a short while, the window is filled with random pixels where there should be transparency. Luckily this doesn't translate into the saved gif.

I don't know what could be wrong. Its 100% legit, full version, no modding. Anyone else had this problem? More importantly, does anyone else know how to fix it?

Oh... and I noticed just now that IT ISN'T EVEN LOOPING!!! I can't complain to the makers, cause they don't speak English... I'm really getting pissed...

Pixel Art / [WIP] Tiny Beat Em Up Sprite
« on: February 01, 2007, 05:09:06 pm »
Just some animation practice. Yes, he is very small. I'll save you all some typing and say it myself.

As always, my colors suck. I know I need contrast with the skin tone, but I just dont know how to do it. Also, is it best to start practicing animation on tiny things like this? Id love to hear feedback and get some help. Oh, and sorry for the missing apostrophes, but the key isnt working (again.)

Pixel Art / The Oculus
« on: January 24, 2007, 01:22:45 pm »
Well, Diablo II has been eatting into my pixeling time, so I figured I'd use it as a theme for my next piece. This is a short, almost "chibi" version of one of the best weapons in the game, The Oculus. Its kind of like a magic wand/crystal ball thing. The original can be seen here: http://www.battle.net/diablo2exp/items/normal/usorceress.shtml

Pixel Art / Zelda Style Sprites
« on: January 07, 2007, 09:43:02 pm »
Hey, I'm working on a game with two other guys (both programmers.) Its a pretty straightforward Zelda/Gauntlet style action/arcade game with a twist. I won't go into details because I'm sure all you guys want to see is the pixels.

Here's a little mockup. I cluttered the room up a bit to show off some of the powerups.

These are my tiles:

I'm aware that the ground tile needs to be "de-gridded."

These will be used in a minigame:

Anyways, let me know what you think. Also, in the game the character's colors are customizible (must choose a color from my preset pallet, though.) I just picked some random schemes for this mockup.

Pixel Art / [WIP] Mush
« on: November 26, 2006, 11:11:44 am »
I started making this wierd little mushroom scene a while back. Its close to finished in terms of getting the pixels in place. I just need to tweak my colors (some are too close together) and put some gills under the caps then refine it to being halfway passible.. Anyway, here be Shroomies:

Pixel Art / Topdown NBA Game
« on: November 11, 2006, 12:58:31 am »
Ok, I'm making a game for a friend. She's a big mavs fan, so I'm making a Pacman, Dirk Nowitzki (sp?) game. Basically, you run around a maze looking for the ball, which you then throw at either an enemy (logo of a non-mavs team) to make it respawn in the map's center, or throw it at a goal to earn a point. I here's the sprites I have. The side animation is pretty poor, the dribble looks bad when animated, and the hair needs to move. I'd like to see other people's edits and comments before I continue. Help, please!
