It looks great! ;D
I really like how the beak jumps up and down, just perfect.
I tried to make the feet a bit more flappy and flat:

Not sure if it's better than yours though :)

Hi,

Nice animation! I really like your character :). However I do think it looks a bit stif right now. In walk cycles it's important to have the entire body move in the rithm of the steps. So the shoulders should move with the arms and the body should hop up and down with the legs. I've made a quick edit to show what I mean:

Also a little thing to notice is that when you walk you will never have your right arm in front of you at the same time your right foot steps forward. When your right hand is al the way to the front, your right foot is all the way to the back.

Thank you for your reaction. I have started from scratch and made this:

I changed the shaped and bounce. I think it looks at least less unnatural now.

I have added some new climbing and crouching related animations. But I am struggling with the crouchwalk-animation:

I can't get it to look natural. Any suggestions on how to improve?

Thank you for your comment Yellowlime, really helpfull.
I edited my first post with some new versions.
The walking:
Made some minor changes to the legs and arms. I will experiment some more with it.
Moving against wall:
removed the feet thingy. It was meant as a small last step, but it looks better without it.
The choking:
Great tip about the leg. I changed it in both animations.
I also got rid of the dithering. It wasn't intended to be like that, but the animation program I am using kept changing the images.

Hi there,
I have been working on these animations for a little stealth game I'm making. First  time for me doing anything isometric, so I figured I could use some feedback. What do you think?

Stance:

Walking:

Pressing against a wall, moving and stepping away:

Choking out a policeman:

I think you should keep the head steady, like hapiel said. In my edit I have also changed one of the legs in frame 2 and 6 to make it look a little faster. Also, both his legs are darker than the rest of his body. Is that shading or because his skin is darker there. If shading, maybe you could try only making his far leg dark.

I don't know why the eye's turned blue. It wasn't intended so please ignore it.  ::)

I hope this is usefull.

Pixel Art / jumping and fighting
« on: June 09, 2012, 11:26:38 am »
Hello,

I've been working on this fighting animations. Maybe you will recognize the character or parts of the animation. I've worked on this before. Thanks to your help I made the animations in this topic: http://www.wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/index.php?topic=11721.0
I was really pleased with the results, but I think involving the enemy in the animation and making animations for the player being hit too will improve the result. I want to try to create fistfights with different outcomes depending on the players actions. Here are four, but more will be coming soon.

This one might be not readable enough.

I dont know what causes the little floating elbow part in the last three animations. It shouldn't be there. Try to ignore it, please. :sry:

While making the fighting animation I realised how bad my jumping animation was.  After trying several times I came up with this:

Since the animation must be suitable for a wide range of heights (jumping on a flat floor, jumping of a low ledge, jumping of a cliff) this animation consists out of 3 shorter animations.
Jump:

Flying through the air:

Landing:

Edit:
Trying to make his basic stance look a bit more heroic, but still casual:

The one one the left is the original stif version. The midle ones are first attempts. I'm most happy with the right one and maybe the fifth. Do you agree?

Edit:

The same jump with another landing. This one is for landing without continiuing the running. He just hits the ground and gets up.
Also, this will be the new stance:

Edit:

Any comments are appreciated.

Pixel Art / Re: help on tree trunk

@Hideon:
I am using this dark colors because the tree is supposed to be in a dark forest at night. Here's a mockup to show what I mean:

I bet you can't spot the main character in the picture.  ;D

Ignore the backgroundtrees texture. It's an older version.
Don't you think your colors are a bit bright and saturated for this forest? In this image I aplied your colors:

Your edit sure looks good, but it's another style. I noticed you used bigger pixelclusters and didn't render to much of the trees relief. It looks really consistent. I'll see if I can use that to get rid of the noise in my version. The side-branches are a nice touch too.
Thanks for your edit and your patience.

@Daimoth:
thanks... I gues. :P
What do you mean exactly?

@Sohei:
I didn't get your reaction too. You think it's that ugly? ??? Could you tell me what you think is the problem?

Thank you for your edit. You're absolutely right about the legs. It seems really obvious now. :-[
Here's the current version:

Still struggling with the abdominal muscles. I have tried a lot, but it's so hard. I saw you drew then in a more cartoony way (by drawing the lines). It sure is a good solution, but it looks like another style than the arms to me.
