Pixel Art / Re: [WIP] Paper Mario

I actually just outlined the head and I think it gives him more of a redefined look...

Also, update with a preview at Tippy and Red, the bridge keeper.

Pixel Art / [WIP] Super Paper Mario Character Sprites
« on: February 25, 2008, 10:14:40 am »

Okay, as you can tell I have the basic look and feel of how I wanted it. Though, things that bug me is the way the neck is, maybe I need to make it more V-neck or ovalled. The next thing is the shoes, version on the left or right? I don't know.

I'll be adding shading. Later though, just posting this to get save it and maybe get a few advices.

Pixel Art / The Block Boy

Okay, after my laptop crashed and I lost all my work I have ever done, I decided to do some very simple sprites to get me back into the mood of spriting.

So yeah, number 2 is the one I want to show off.

Pixel Art / [WIP] Carmine (Gears of War)

So yeah, this guy is awesome. He gets his head blown off because a bad reload. But when he comes back for my headshots in online multiplayer, he is everyone's favourite.

Think of just doing a torso shot. I've only got his helmet done at the moment. Proud of it actually!

Any C+C along the way would be awesome.

Pixel Art / Re: Sax Himself

Yes, "Sax" is basically a ball, but to give him more character, I usually try to shave a pixel side on the side that his other eye isn't really shown on the sprite.

As for lighting I basically was going by the way displayed in (2). But I guess I have to much darkness for that much of light to be recoiled on his face? I'm not sure.

And those are feet actually, not shoes, those were added on just for fun. I draw his legs way too cartoony, so it's hard to incorporate it into pixel form. I try though, and will go back and change it.

But 1 is more rounded version, I will go ahead and try to get a quick animation going or something to test it out.

Sharprm, as pointed out by a friend once, I usually would put shading under the red stripe, or then shading on the end of the red stripe. He then said, it's flat, so why put shading on it. I know you wouldn't of known this, but just letting you know for future reference.
And the aim was to keep the colours I had and only use the in-between shades for more depth.

Great work on the jump animation, and even though I'm no expert, don't you think he could use a change in facial expression?

Pixel Art / Sax Himself

I'm actually pretty happy with this. This is the design of my personal character, don't want comments on how simple he is, that's why I look like that, simply for the fun to sprite/draw and easiness to remember.

I guess I need some advice on this contrast, AA, selout thing. I've tried it through the piece but I'm sure it can be fixed.

Pixel Art / Elephant-nosed glop [C+C if u plz]
« on: June 09, 2007, 11:46:06 am »

I don't know what inspired me to keep going on with this. I guess thanks to Panda to telling me to just keep all my old doodles.
This was done on my first try.

I started making colours, then wanted to make them blend better so I added another colour. With some advice I'm sure I probably could be able to cut them down, but I'm no expert at that stuff.

After doing a black outline all the way through, I decided to colour the outline (is that called selout) and yeah I think it looks heaps better.

Any C+C before I start saving this and putting it aside?

Pixel Art / Small dump, c+c very welcome
« on: May 31, 2007, 09:32:29 am »

Man, I have no inspiration lately, and when I get it, I try drawing it out, I'm imagining what it could look like, I finished clicking the mouse to find a bunch of lines that look like crap so I scrap them.

Sorta practice I guess, and my issue with doing humans hasn't been resolved due to me tryin to improve but limited comments.
