The knight's posture is really good. The blue rogue guy's looks weird though, it feels like he's tripping/falling over!
Yeah I see where you're coming from for him, I can't figure out how to make it look like he's ready to sprint away and a moments notice or what not...

I changed all the sprites to simpler color palettes and different poses cause I don't think I have the poses thing down or what not.

I was trying to help you out. I know you want to drop out of the game, that feeling happens to most beginners, but it's hard to know what you're missing out on.

Any skill takes a lot of work to make it worth it. The better art communities (other skills too) hanging out there tell it like it is, this critique sounds rough but you have to understand it's all earnest, or at least for my part it was.

I am no master myself but far along enough to tell you if you stick with it, it pays off. Pretty sure a lot of those other artists and everyone dishing out the good critique know this too.

I'm not tearing you down, just your art, and it gets stronger as a result. By all means keep at it :y:

I tried again for the mage and this is what I came up with.  (My friend wanted him to have holes in his cloak)

Oh, so the problem with my first sprites was that they followed a straight line?

Made an edit on this guy.

I find I just have to play with the pixels til it looks right at this size.  Added 3 pixels to its height.
Note the added contrast as pistachio mentioned.
I get the contrast but I don't understand what you mean by the "line of action"?  I'm really new to pixel art and drawing in general...

Edit// I changed the sprite but I still don't understand the line of action stuff for pixel art, so I tried using the pose you drew and added to it.

Please post your art at 100% size so it makes it easier for us to judge and edit your work, the forum has a built-in zoom function :)
My bad I forgot about that, I also did some changes.

Sprites I made for a game I'm making and just want to know what other think of them, if I'm heading in the right direction, or not.

The sideways run also feels like a diagonal run because the far (black) buttock is consistently visible to the left of the front (grey) buttock.

The torso should move up and down with the run, as when the legs are extended, they're not pushing it upward. The lack of vertical motion may be what your friend meant about bending the knees more.

It may help you to draw the floor underneath the figure so that you can position the feet in a way that makes sense, as well as add a simple torso so you can more easily track its motion and rotation.
Yeah...  That's probably what he meant.  I guess I'll try redesigning my sideways sprite as well, at least for movement.

I believe my friend is right and I need to bend the knees more, but I'd just like to get a second opinion from people who've animated before.  This is an 8 frame sideways and diagonal-upward run cycles.

//edit
I changed the sideways animation so that its at less of an angle and made the knees bend more near the legs lifting up.
