Pixel Art / Re: RPG tiles
« on: October 18, 2011, 04:05:49 pm »
I haven't had any real time to work on this again of late, but at the very least I did try something I figured might work.

entirely removing the brightest shade of the grass seemed to work well for it's contrast. I also gave it some saturation. that's about all I've been able to do though. is this change helpful, or does it make things worse?

thank you for the critique! I'll get on fixing these issues once I get some time away from my job.
Also thanks for confirming my suspicion that the base tiles are too busy. I was eventually gonna have several different tiles, but seeing as the single tiles are super busy, I'll try and revise them so they don't cause such issues, then get to adding other tiles after fixing that.

I am currently working on a tileset for an RPG-esque thing that doesn't really have a name or anything yet.

these are all pretty basic, so I feel they could be alot better. any thoughts?

Using a 3d model as a basis for paint-overs. (this thing ) Pretty much just prototyping different ways to do stuff. Any thoughts?
the uh... 'hairpiece' in the back is subject to complete removal and rework. I already know it's bad and off-key, and it wasn't even finished on the model, haha.

hmm...
in adding arms, I seem to have created a mood I didn't really want. it's too... happy I think is the word for it? I'm not sure, but it seems to be rather off-key of what I wanted from this.
I need to not listen to jazz when working on this. I think I'll save this cycle for later though, as I was considering later doing a zoot suit guy.

anyways, ANY thoughts? I get this crazy feeling I'm talking to myself a bit.

currently testing the walk cycle of the character to see if it works. spine seems off, but I'm not really sure if it's too far forward or back. any thoughts?

noted. fixed them. (and a few glaring errors I caught right after I posted the original.)

someone said the blues are far too saturated, but I dunno. Tried hue shifts and desaturation, and it seemed to do the trick along with cutting a shade out that I didn't need. puts it back in the palette range of the Richter sprite, which I was hoping to do before this was over with.

E: woops, forgot to desat the darkest blue! fixed now.

first was made for something, the squid was an experiment.

both are like within a month of each other when they were made, so it's kinda hard to gauge anything about whether I improved anything or not.

Yeah, I understand what you mean. I don't really mean to sound that way, it's just at the time I was fighting with the thing to get it looking okay. I'm sure later on I could make it work better. There's still a lot I've yet to learn about this stuff.

I see what you mean about the pose. I hadn't actually thought to do that, I'll get to it once I have more time to spare again. (Boy that'll be fun with how tiny the mid torso on mine is, haha!)
