Commercial Critique / Re: Commercial Critique - Pokemon Red/Blue

Here is my technical 2-cents.

In red/blue, all pokemon and trainer sprites, both regular and back sprites, are compressed. Don't feel concerned then about taking up too much space,
as there are techical ways around it. Also, the back sprites were particularly bad, but in my opinion it appears as if these were pixeled in a small resolution,
and then blown up later. It could have been they already drew all the backsprites in a small resolution before deciding it to make it a higher one, and to save time
they just resized it rather than redraw every single one.

In terms of character design, I do like the cape more, although do be aware that it will be a much bigger pain animating him now. But, it will look cooler.

Although I think he has way too many color themes. Green pants, silver breastplate, red cape, and blue shoulderpads makes him seem too colorful. If you want to make him warmer, I'd say change the blue and green and try browns and beiges. If his color scheme was brown, red, and beige, I think he would look more cohesive as an entity.

Also, be careful with the banding! I notice you're trying to use AA, but you're overdoing it.

Try having him turn his body as he whips. Also, his legs look very stiff. You don't have to move them so much, but suggest his legs are at least turning. One trick I always do is to do the animation myself in front of a mirror. The animation is also similar to throwing a baseball, maybe looking at some of those references can help you.

Well, I noticed your big dude walks a lot like a gorilla. Maybe you can use that as reference :)

Look, you already figured it out. I got your "skating" one, and it only needed one edit. On the second frame, you forgot to move his head a pixel down. I took the last frame, flipped it, moved the head a pixel down, flipped the hair so it matches the other frames, and made it the second frame.

That's all.

I think it might help you with this animation to first try a larger sprite, say, 32 x 32. I think you can see a lot that you cannot see right now, that will later help you to make a 16x16 sprite.

I think the basic problem is the pose itself, and not in the details or anything else. Superman tends to have the same kind of pose you are going for, I would recommend looking at some references and go from that.

Examples,

Here, I made a quick little sprite. Maybe it can give you some ideas.

Hello,

These sprites are pretty cute. For the north one, I would suggest a third frame in between, or maybe two. A lot of sprites this small do just have 2 frames, however, because this character moves so much, I think more frames would solve your problem.

The same goes for the east, although you should draw the hands in both frames. It looks like he wears a cloak right now, make sure to keep some details intact.

Wow. Stealing art from a forum and then posting it directly in the same forum where you stole it from. Like if we wouldn't notice.
