That's rad!

I'll try and improve my planes so I don't have to rely on dither so often...
You guys were great. Thanks, once again!

I tried toning down and it got a lot worse. I'm not saying it shouldn't be done as the original DOES look somewhat harsh... just that I can't get it right. :blind:

Here:

Oh, and thanks a lot for the tips!

I see what you mean... I was trying to keep the colour count low without going monochromatic, but I reckon mine wasn't the best solution possible. Dithering DOES look bad in such a small piece.

Guess there's no way other than adding more tones then? What would be a good shading technique for this?

Bad face. Bad anatomy. Bad shading. Bad palette. Me needs help.
Heavy C&C please. Edits are more than welcome.

*How do I get the BG to be transparent? It's ALREADY the first colour AND set to transparent but as soon as I export it turns pink! I'm working in GraphicsGale...
**Is it worthy animating the smoke?

Edit: Transparency get heh. Also, dithering looks ok at 2x - but only so  :(.

Contrast looks somewhat better...

Could you please post the ref? That'd be very helpful for critique as you seem to be striving for fidelity.

The horns can be made to look rounder by adding some highlights. Contrast is a bit low. Some colours are quite similiar, wich makes the palette cluttered and adds a lot of difficulty when picking shades...

Another tip: try and make the hue of the shades contrasting to the hue of the lightsource - and by that I also mean you should use different hues for different shades in general. (:

I wish I was 1337 enough to come up with a decent edit. If what I said sounds like gobbledygook just let me know and I'll gladly destroy my reputation by showing what I mean.

Cheers, mate!

Dithering will do you no good as long as you're lacking on skills as fundamental as colour theory, lighting and surface rendering.
Also, start small. Why not pixel some tiles or sprites or basically ANYTHING less megalomaniac than a full-blown million-pixel cathedral?

Cheers, mate.
