Pixel Art / Skillbuttons, items and mockups
« on: May 08, 2010, 11:46:09 am »
Hey guys,
Been working alot lately and havent had time to really do much pixeling. Figured id post some of the little things ive been doing in my spare time over the past few months.
C&C welcome =)

First is a skill button for Enrage, im finding it hard to come up with a background that is suitable. among other things. Second is a Skill button for the wizards teleport. im pretty satisfied with it but still the backgroung issue.

the leather scrap came out the best, having a tough time drawing stone for the ore.. but still learning so thats good. the apple is.. ok i guess and the coin i just have no idea where to go with that.

Ignore the character and ground tiles, theyare just for size reference and hella old. Everything here is basically just for measurements sake, but some of it ive kind of went into a little deeper, like the inventory screen lol. also id like to make the health and mana bar get brighter from start to finish any tips would be appreciated.
Thanks all,
K.

Pixel Art / Re: Grass [wip]

Give him a shadow =P that will make it look less out of place. also the angles are all off, the character looks like he's laying down on the grass to me =/.
also, the grass could be a little darker, looks kind of bright compared to the character. just my opinions though.
goodluck!

Harrooo =O)

The basic rule of thumb with anatomy is that the legs are the same length as the head to pelvis. Also equaling a total of 7.5 - 8 head lengths from head to toe. The tips of the fingers should come down to mid thigh.
although i have no way to thoroughly look at this atm i would say having the proportions right and the angles fix the torso, also the torso shape is far too wide for standard anatomy, even if your going for a heroic look its too close to the arms. I personally would focus on getting the anatomy right and everything before moving on the the clothes and hair, i hope you are using multiple layers =P

and just because its driving killing me to ponder this... is he wearing zebra striped underwear?

hope this helps,

K.

lol this reminds me of a swastika xD i would get rid of some of the straight lines and change up the lighting. also the face that the body is seperate from the limbs looks a little odd.

Pixel Art / Re: [WIP] Isometric Fountain
« on: March 24, 2010, 03:09:05 pm »
Hey =)
Although i am by no means a great artist or for that matter an isometric person at all.
To me the round parts of the fountain look too flat. maybe try expanding them towards the upper part of the tile?
As for the water, are you planning on making it animated? or just static.

another thing that really jumps out at me is the lines on the side of the bottom circle, the brown inner lines where they begin looks like its cutting through the rest.

Also if you want the water to look spiffy, try adding some bright blue lines on the places where the water meets the stone, or gold? =P

Other than that i really like it and look forward to seeing what becomes of it. =D

god, 640x480 is so yesterday >.>.
hit up the standard 1024x768 imo, also when designing a game its useful to work everything out before hand and make either a document,wiki, or notebook containing every detail about the game.
you dont want to "play it by ear." i know thats a bit OT but i think its important to be aware of.
As for the Character, it is very small but, small can be a great way to learn with pixel art. Animation is waaaaay easier the smaller it is.
The sprite looks very flat, the boots and body mainly Although i must say
for a first attempt its pretty good =P. Adding a light source from the center would make it more 3Dish and would eliminate any lighting issues in the game as Eyecraft suggested.
also i dont know what program your using, but if you want a pretty good pixel art program check out: http://www.humanbalance.net/gale/us/ Although not as professional as say photoshop
its simplicity and design make for a pretty sweet combo. Good luck =) hope that helps at least a little bit.

her right arm at the shoulder seems to be very extruded. Is it intentional?
as for the left leg, maybe raise the foot a little? the right hand also kind of looks like an explosion to me, but maybe im just crazy =P
Looks good though.
Keep it up =)

I completely agree with STE, the one that really catches my eye is the blue and orange one but when looking at it i find it a bit faded looking.
though the spiral thing in the middle is alright, because it makes more sense for the people to be the focus in something like this. or at least to me =)
Good luck!

Hello =)

To me it looks as tho the gun is really short and fat, at least the cocking mechanism. Maybe try making it bigger?
also the tip seems to narrow in yours, yet in the reference it has a bulge. The clip sticking out is about as long as the grip, so it should be a bit longer.

Hope this helps =P
Good luck!
