Job offers / [Hiring] Animator & Character Designer
« on: May 26, 2020, 12:50:58 am »
We have now hired 4 people from this forum, 2 of which who are now 2 years later still with us and core members of our team (one being our second to lead artist now)! We have had a lot of success with this community and thus are here again as our team again expands. If you applied previously, but didnt get a position, and are still interested in one, please apply again!

We're hiring 2 new artists to join our team!

You can view a bit about us here at LivingPhoenixEnt.com, we're based in Canada but work remotely and have staff from half a dozen countries around the world! We're an incredibly motivated indie team building a pixel based MMORPG that is in it's final stages (Q3 2020 beta release) after 3 years of development with a track record of prior MMORPG development.

We have a really close, fun and friendly team nature, with a phenominal lead arist with 12 years of pixel art experience. Oh, and on Friday's we have team game's day & watch parties!

Positions Available:

Animator - Animate actions for characters (primarily Non-Player Characters), each task will be unique, creative and non-reptitive. Such as animating a farmer picking apples from a tree, a blacksmith hammering a weapon he's creating, a fisherman fishing, a bartender pouring a drink. Needs to have good file organization and the habit of using overlapping layers, because of the perspective and how it behaves. Unlimited workflow available.

Character Designer - Designing Outfits for Characters and Non-Player Characters. Very creative position with unlimited workflow available.

Here you can see references from our project and the style: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1JpKK9HXPAH44Mg43GHCwn5eUmN_lJoD9

Description on our style from our Lead Artist:

The Oblique Perspective we use has everything that lies in parallel to the floor viewed top-down and the angle between the x- and y-axis is 90. The vertical z-axis is angled at 135 in relation to the x-axis, creating a distortion in that direction. Its the same perspective used in Ultima VII and Tibia.

Our style consists of mixing pixel art with digital art for the environment, structures, character, creatures etc, more precisely hand painted textures with pixel details. We appreciate that everything is very clean, with plenty of control in the representation of textures and vivid colors. This is very important to our visual identity and is a predominant feature of the game.

We are looking for people interested in learning a new perspective and must be prepared to face something new and harder than the more classic ones, considering that the game consists of a more difficult perspective and style than usual. Being honest and straightforward: We need someone who has a good learning curve and is proactive in practicing these requirements, but don't worry, we have a qualified team to assist you and provide all the information. Although it is a more complex game to deal with we have experienced people who are already used to helping new members. "

If you are interested, please submit an application to schriknicolas@gmail.com with:

Name/Alias (Either is fine, just first name works for application):

Age:

Location:

English Fluency (*/10):

Portfolio & Any specific work similar to what we're looking for in style or perspective.

If we are interested after seeing your portfolio, and have shortlisted you, we will request a small trial task. Any artist that is shortlisted will do the same application, and no work of this application will be used on our end unless you are hired in which case you would be paid for your application as well.

This position can be part time up to full time, whatever works best for you.

We very much looking forward to bringing a few of you on to join our quickly growing & talented team :)

We are current hiring the following job positions (as well as apprenticeship positions if you are looking to get paid & learn from our talented artists) to work on our existing 2.5d mmorpg as well as our new one in development.

Below is information coming from our Lead Artist, describing our style, and what is expected by you to fulfill a position.

Job Positions Available  - remembering that all offers consist in learning the perspective and the painting style applied in each area:
Animator - Animate walking cycles for both creatures and characters, animate various scene elements and effects as well. need to have a good file organization and the habit of using overlap layers always, because of the perspective and how it behaves.

Character/Environment Designer - Create and enhance graphics that make sense with the game world, aiming at the improvement and consistency of our unique and very original elements. Need to know how to create an objective design and easy to do variations, need to organize the files in a way that helps in the animation part.

Icon Designer - Create and enhance item / ui icons with hand painted style. Need to have an organization of the files always containing transparent background, default version and document the background and default effects.

Obviously it is a benefit if you are able/interested in doing multiple of these positions, especially if you are interested in an unending available workflow

We had a great success 3 months ago finding several new artists to strengthen our team from this forum, and now that two more positions have opened up (further expansion of our team!) we are opening up another post to hopefully find 2 more talented artists wanting to work on an MMORPG!

Side Note: We had a ton of applications for our last position, i apologize to the few i never got a response back to, please dont be offended, we simply had miscommunication on tracking a few emails and unfortunatly missed them. Please apply again if we didn't respond or if you applied after we filled the position!

You can view a bit about us at LivingPhoenixEnt.com

We are current hiring the following job positions (as well as apprenticeship positions if you are looking to get paid & learn from our talented artists) to work on our existing 2.5d mmorpg as well as our new one in development.

Environmental Artist (32x32-96x96 - Must be in 32x32 intervals)
Character Artist/Animator (32x32-48x48)
Creature Artist/Animator (12x12-96x96)
Spell Animator (12x12-32x32)

This is a paid job that can be either short term or long term. (We prefer long term as we invest alot into feedback and developing our staff to be better than when they joined us).

We have a very specific style that we want matched, as your art will be used with other artists that already work on the projects. So you will need to be able to adapt to our style. Our style is a 2.5d digital art/hand drawn/painted art style with pixelated details, using colorful pallets, stylized shapes, and dynamic outlines. Good references being: Tree of savior or Torchlight - Another reference piece here - https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/2d/environments/2d-hand-painted-town-tileset-67346

Below are our best examples of our style for each of the positions -
Edit: Not sure why all images look very pixelated (not sure if that's what the forum does for dramatic effect ;) - please right click and open original to see our exact style.. as it's a blend of pixel art and digital art~

The IMG tag requires an image URL, but you're using the URLs of the webpages the images are on. The web browser doesn't know how to interpret a webpage as an image, which is why it doesn't work.
Wrong: https://imgur.com/a/xiOH2yT (note the /a/ album URL signifier, and lack of file extension)
Right: https://i.imgur.com/hEKtM1m.gif (note the file extension)
You can get the URLs by right-clicking on the image and selecting "Copy Image Location" or "Copy Image Address". You could also click the image in your account's full list of images, that should pop up a thing with many sharing options, BBCode and direct link URLs included.

Thanks so much :)
