Pixel Art / Re: [WIP] Old Man running/walking :)
« on: September 05, 2009, 03:52:28 pm »
I love low resolution sprites, and I like this one, too. The only thing I would fix are the feet. Are his shoes supposed to be curved upwards? It looks like he's walking on his heels when the sprite is animated. Also, he is putting his foot far too much forward I think, which is particularly visible with his right foot. I know the left one is identically placed, but we can see how the right one connects to the body and it looks as if he was about to check if the water in the pool is cold.

Another thing is his arm. When it moves back it goes flat as if two or so pixels were missing. Nobody walks with their arms completely straight, so bend the arm a bit and it will be fine. Other than that, it's a fun sprite. It just needs some minor tweaks.

There's one thing I have noticed [except for the waist, of course]. This is just an observation, though. Usually, when someone is holding a shield, it covers the lower arm, since that's how the straps are placed - Your lower arm is placed tightly against the back of the shield. Your sprite however seems to hold it while the arm is at an angle, which looks a bit off. I know the back surface isn't flat, but to hold it up and straight like that, the elbow would have to be higher than it is.

That's what i thought when I looked at it, anyway. Oh, and hey! Those tiny arms couldn't hold that sword! Hehe.

The animation is good, but the walk itself looks like it's a part of a dance choreography. Unless this is done entirely on purpose, then you could animate the hat bouncing up and down to add to the effect. Right now it kind of looks like this - > click.

Omg, that's supposed to be his "arm" ? =D

That's a third time I hear a similar comment. I did a small fix, so that his chest separates better from the arm and is more clearly visible on his left. If anyone wants to make an edit, be my quest. Here's the link to the online editor - > click.

@Big Brother - Hey! It's been a while since I visited Herculean Effort. How are you guys doing? Working hard on Apprentice III, I bet. Hehe. I'm glad to see you and your work here.

The first major problem I see here is the light source. Judging by the ginormous shadow of the rabbit, it should be right behind him, but his suit is shaded lighter in the front, not the back. Also, the angle and proportions of the shadow are really awkward.

Another thing is the liquid dripping from Mad Hatter's cup. Judging by the position of his hand, the liquid should be pooling about where the second drop is. Right now the liquid is too far away from his hand to be all the way at the edge of the table.

I originally drew this up in Tiger Paint, then animated it in GG. It's just another silly outcome of editing each other's pictures. The toucan was made by Draco9898, I added a friendly monkey, and it kind of went the usual violent way from there.

I missed your P.S. when I read through the topic and I was about to point out how similar to Flashback everything looks. The twisted tree trunk, and especially the background. It still looks great, though. The only thing I can comment on is the character. Maybe it's Flashback that makes me think that, but the character appears to be a bit small. Or maybe it's because there's so much free space. Still, he seems like a really small dude who probably wouldn't make the jump across the gap.

Time for some more Tiger Paint fun. A zombie with no hand. There are probably two hundred things wrong with this picture, but I'm a noob, so be gentle. The original can be viewed and / or edited here

Found a nice, though armless steambot, posted by Jad back in 2007. Came across it by accident, but I thought it would be a better example than explaining the inner workings of a steam engine.

Here's the original message. Sorry Jad, hope you don't mind.

Challenges & Activities / Re: Palette Workshop Challenge
« on: August 15, 2009, 01:37:02 am »

I know I'm bumping an old thread, but why not. I was browsing through the activities section and I found the palette challenge thread. Decided to give it a go, but the thing didn't turn out the way I wanted it to. I've read that noobs tend to over-dither and so did I. I dithered, then removed some of it, and dithered again until it was a mess.

I used the second palette [ ], but I cheated and I placed only a couple of green pixels on the buildings, so unless you look really close or enlarge the image, you probably won't see them.
