It does sound like a fun project to work on. Providing a little more detail about the number of objects and animations would be helpful too. Do you have the game planned and designed or are you still working all that out?

Here's a process shot from one of our earlier prints. You can design a pixelated image, and then tile it out with the LEGO bricks on a base that's mounted type-high and locked into the press bed. It's really nifty and has allowed me to take my pixel hobby in a new direction.

(this pic has floated around the interwebs a bit)

A friend and I recently printed this on a letterpress using smooth LEGO bricks as the relief.

Pixel Art / Re: Top-Down Mockup

Making the ships stand out with a black outline could help the busyness. Also, just turning the black into the brown color automatically gives the background a little more context. Context is probably a good thing to think about. Are you on land or sea or in space or in some hi-tech tunnel thing etc...

Here's a little edit I made.

Hi Olothntor,

These look nice on the black background sprite sheet, but they get muddy in the background. For the ships, you might try to simplify, and add more patches of solid color with less dithering. At those small sizes all the pixel activity reduces clarity.

What are you going for in the background? Right now it looks kind of just like "stuff".

Hey, this is what I was looking for. I had started a similar topic not to long ago. There seems to be a lot of disagreement about whether this is actually a good thing or not, but it seems to work for me.

I like the "darker mood" but the jelly is now perhaps too vibrant against the darker background? The bubbles, though, look tremendous on the darker water.

General Discussion / Color Profiles-Help
« on: July 30, 2009, 01:41:07 pm »
I'm creating my pixel art in Photoshop CS3 running on Mac OS X 10.5.7. However, whenever I save files (.png or .gif) they become desaturated when viewing them in Preview, Firefox, and Thunderbird. However, when viewed from Safari, the colors are the same as in Photoshop. When "saving for web devices" and creating an animated .gif, the colors immediately become desaturated viewed from Photoshop.

My working space, and destination space are both "sRGB IEC61966-2.1".

My question is, is this a problem beginning in Photoshop that I can fix, or is this issue out of my control and depends on the viewing devices and the profiles they support. I'd be exceedingly grateful for any thoughts or suggestions.

(colors saved from photoshop and screen capture from firefox)

[Update]

Okay, I may have figured this out. It seems to not desaturate the images when I put the working space profile on "ColorSync RGB - Generic RGB Profile"...If anyone even cares.

Hmm, I don't exactly know if this counts as "OT" creative work, but I entered some pixel art I had done into a public art competition through my city and I was selected as a finalist! There's pixel art on a public transit bus in my city now.

So for real OT work, here's a folding poster/brochure knowledge map that I did for an imaging course last semester.
