Pixel Art / Re: Tileset/ Overworld sprite sizes

It would be easier to give crits if we had some context for your sprite. What exactly is he? Looks like an owl or a bug to me. Not sure what exactly is going on with his lower half- is he balanced on a ball?

it's not ideal, but hopefully you can get something out of this edit.

Some thoughts:
- Odedrt9 is right, shine goes a long way towards making it look metallic
- In general, metal is very high contrast, push those values up and down more
- Another thing that helps for metal is bounced light, you can see this in your references. especially useful on your raised details.
- You should work on a gray background rather than white, bright backgrounds distort how you see colors
- Try not to use interior outlines, especially on a piece this small. You need all the pixels you can get to make it believable.

I think that's it. Of course, there's lots of ways to make things shiny, stylistically speaking. Looking at it again, my edit may read more as plastic than metal. Experiment a bit to find a way that works for you.

Pixel Art / Forever Eating Pizza
« on: March 16, 2018, 02:54:45 am »
Heyo! It's been a while since I dropped in. Realized my current profile pic is woefully out of date, so here's my new look.

(roughly based on this selfie)

Main issue I'm having right now is getting the pizza to read as pizza. Seems like most cartoon and/or pixel pizzas achieve that by using pepperoni, but I only like cheese! If anyone has tips, I'm all ears.

Also, I know it's a bit wonky looking, but I'm trying to lean into the cartoony side of things. That said, the rest of the face is still fair game if ya'll spot any problems. :U

edit:

Messed with the overall saturation and texture on the cheese. Not sure if the cheese is a step forward or back...

edit2:

More tweaks. Lots of small changes around the nose/mouth. Think I finally nailed that pizza texture. (maybe)

Finished my wedding invites recently.  :)

They look better than this in person, my phone camera washed it out a bit...
