Pretty neat. I like the dark shadows. O: The wolf/dog's back end looks a little funny, though. It might be hard to animate.

Pixel Art / [WIP] Azure Kite Sprite
« on: April 27, 2007, 05:04:04 am »
I have also posted this on PJ. I decided to do a sprite of my current obsession from .hack//G.U., "Azure Kite," also known falsely as "Tri-Edge."

... And somehow, I ended up doing a shadowy type thing instead of a normal sprite. I will probably do two different versions, one that looks more like this (maybe partly colored? I really don't know.) and then perhaps a normal sprite. Tell me what you guys think.

Any C/C is welcome. I want to get this thing looking right before I decide to use this to do two versions of this sucker. I don't really know, though. I'm thinking maybe I shouldn't do that. ARGH. I already have an idea of what I'm going to put around him (blue flames,) but an idea for the background seems to be escaping me. I have a few ideas, but the color scheme is going to be tricky.

Color and design reference here.

Bers' edit is amazing, as usual. I was going to say as I was scrolling through your steps that the arm that Bers corrected really looked too broken up into the separate muscles/regions and looked... disconnected. Even with Bers' edit, the upper region where the shoulder is still looks disconnected. I would suggest trying to get more of a graceful curve going on along the upper edge of that arm.

The head is a bit too small, I agree, for the body. I also think the little bit of muscle at the bottom left (our left) of his torso should be trimmed a little. The area around the elbow on his right arm needs to be changed. Here's what I think it should look like, but I could be wrong:

The hand on the same arm I edited also seems off to me, but I'm sure someone else could address it better than I.

Pixel Art / Re: [Wip] Female anatomy [nudity] - Update!
« on: April 25, 2007, 05:17:01 pm »
Wow, pretty damn good. And this is coming from a female, just in case you don't know.

edit: Removed the image because it was unhelpful.

I myself have trouble with legs, and it often takes me many tries to get them right, so I didn't try and edit that. I can tell you, however, that her feet are far too small and are not positioned correctly. Her feet need to be out farther from center.

Geez, Bers' edit looks much better than mine, but the legs are still a problem. The ankles seem to be a problem spot. Even though females are more curvy and have more natural fat around their hips and thighs, there needs to be more space between her legs, I think. That would make the leg positioning easier and look more realistic.

Gah, well, that was a horrible amalgamation of critiques. D:

Well, I like how you made the jeans seem faded, although they lack much shading besides that. :< The colors aren't very interesting, either.

The first thing I notice is how small the head is compared to the body... especially the shoulders and arms. It looks like you slapped the emo kid's head on the bully's body or something.

Look at some pictures/people and study their anatomy and body proportions. That will help.

Yeah, I actually noticed it's retardedness after I posted it. But, you're totally right.

Hoo hah.

Tried to work on the pants a bit. I think I failed. It's pretty much done in my opinion... but can anyone recommend any way to improve it? |D

Pixel Art / Re: A mock-up is born. WIP. [->A mock-up is growing.]

Hm! This is very nice. :'D Though you're probably working on it, I would definitely put some more minimal detail in the middle ground trees. The big detailed one looks a lil outta place, but I have a feeling you were gonna do that anyway. The tree looks great, but I don't particularly like the way you have rendered the leaves with that mock dithering type of thing. I think it just looks too uniform at the moment.

I wont comment on the water plants because those are totally WIP. But, I will say that the health bars look really out of place. It's good for them to be noticeable, but perhaps you should try to give them a look that goes better with the theme of the game. It just looks too pristine for the nature orientation this seems to have.

And for the figure... I would definitely first change the dithering on the hat. When you dither with just the two colors, most people wont get the sense of it being made of straw, but that you just shaded it (that's what I thought at first, but then discovered it must be made of straw.) Try adding some dithering with the darker shade you used under the brim to the extreme shadow of the hat. I also think the brown you used for his hair blends to much with the hat. Perhaps try tweaking it a bit?

Overall, though, this is simply amazing. C:

Hokay! Well, I tried to give him more spine curving action. I thinned out his front a little though. /neurotic.
