thanks for the advice all  :)

made his legs a bit longer and did an idle pose and the first pose of a walk cycle.

EDIT: I always see something as soon as I post a new image  :mean:
I think he needs to be a bit taller in the idle pose

The individual frames need some palette cleanup, but before I do that I want to get the animation cycle right.

The feedback I've gotten on this so far is that it's not quite right.  Lazycow suggested I add some bend to the elbows, which I just can't seem to get to look
right at this scale.  Any tips?

The animation for the crouch attack looks much better, but doesn't seem realistic in terms of what one would really do to attack near the ground.
It seems like he should attack WHILE he is crouching.

What you have would work great for an "I'm already crouching and now I stab your ankles" animation

why are rotating the sword in-game?  Will you have different versions that you want to swap out on the fly?

first of all, that's a very cool concept piece!  I love the mask and head especially

it's not translating well to pixels though.  I imagine that some of that has to do with the creature itself rather than your pixeling skills, which seem pretty good.

Without looking at the reference piece I had no idea what was going on besides the chest and arms.  The mask looked like a white beard that got flipped up into it's face, and I had no idea what was
going on with the legs.  The shading on the lower arms doesn't seem to match what the arm shape should be.

EDIT: you may want to modify your webserver settings if you don't want folks poking around the rest of your files  ;)
which I did  :D  I think one of the other poses you did might translate better to a standalone pixel piece  ???

hmmm, nobody I know runs with straight arms, like your man in the purple cape (I did know someone once that often wore a purple cape, I never saw him running, so he *might* have ran that way)

on the lady:  I see some weird pixel shifting on her chest, especially the capeless version.

okay, just wasn't happy with the smaller size version, even with the improvements posted by users
I looked carefully at all the edits and incorporated some into a new edit, but all in all I prefered the expressiveness of the bigger version, even if it wasn't as practical for use in a game.

I took another stab at the original size, paying attention to the crits on the legs.  I went back to my reference source (Soul Nomad game) and studied some more.

I changed the skin color and redid the hair and face, the arms and legs are new, but not especially different.

My wife also commented that the girl is wearing a tube top, which she thought a bit
strange.  I agreed so I turned them into overalls.  I kept the rest of the clothes pretty much the same.

While redoing the hair, I got to a point where I had just short hair and bangs and thought it looked appealing so I kept that version around.

any preference for one over the other?  I like the short hair but she seems more bottom heavy than the one with the long hair.

I keep getting comments about extra colors.  Some of them are directed towards purposely placed colors, but some of them refer to odd pixels of discarded color left around.

I switched to GraphicsGale and found the color count tool, but if I think there are extra colors, how do I find them?

i like it!  and I don't think it needs more contrast, it gives it a unique feel.  I don't have any issues picking out the models from the background.

Is one of those guys the player and the other a baddie?
