General Discussion / Re: Where to learn Pixel Art?
« on: June 05, 2008, 01:49:39 pm »
In my opinion, pixel art is a wonderful slice in the 2d art. I don't think it will die any day. If you don't have games to build, (I think there will always have), you can work with animation, you can work with web site design.

I remember that I read in one place that some guy started to draw and paint around his 30 years (just like me now) and today he has like 40 years and after 10 years drawing he can make pretty nice paintings in oil.

I think that I can still learn it. Maybe, when you are younger, your brain is more receptive to new skills, but I think, like some people said here, you can still learn it with patience and a lot of practice.

Well,

Like I said. I will keep trying and maybe someday I will post something here that you will like.

Thanks for all the answers and opinions.

Bruno.

General Discussion / Game Development

Guys,

I'm a developer and I'm looking for artists to join a game development team. I'm a hobbyst in game programming and I tried many times to make a full game, but every time I reach the spot where I need to start to draw I get stuck, because I'm not an artist.

I came here many times to see the work of great artists and every time I come here, I dream with the day when we could make a team and try to build some games.

So, if you have a small team of game makers and want one more developer to help you send me an email.

If you are an artist looking for making a game and don't have knowledge in programming, send me an e-mail, I can help you.

If you have some free time and wanna spend it trying to build game, send me an e-mail too.

We can make a team and start to work together to reach our goals. I would be very happy to join a game development team. My e-mail is schifers on gmail.com.

Thanks in advance,

Bruno Schifer. (msn: schifers on hotmail).

I'm a Java/C++ programmer and I'm very interested in helping you to finish your game. Can you send me an e-mail so we can chat about it? My e-mail is schifers@hotmail.com. Can you put S.Q.U.I.R.E. on the subject of the e-mail too?

Thanks in advance...

It helped a lot. Thanks for the advice. I will keep practicing for my own. The thing is, it seems that if you didn't start to draw when you were very young, the thing turns to be a bit more difficult. I keep trying to do good draws, but it seems too difficult to reach a level that I can tell that I'm good. I will come back to my books and web tutorials. Thanks again and I hope I can some day post something in a forum that people will like. To post something, you should at least like what you are doing and I still don't like my drawings. Keep practicing, like everybody says, it seems to be the key for learning drawing. Bye!

General Discussion / Where to learn Pixel Art?

Guys,

I live in Brazil and we don't have here a big gaming industry. There is few schools where we can learn 3D modeling, digital painting or even pixel art.

We have many colleges and universities that can teach you traditional art, but it is rare to find someone who can teach you digital art.

There is one more problem. I don't have too much time to learn art attending classes inside the school.

So, my doubt is, do you guys know a good place where I can learn drawing, painting, digital painting, pixel art, on-line?

I'm looking for an on-line course that can teach me those subjects. I was browsing Art Insititute of Pittsburgh's site (www.aionline.edu) and I found a Bachelor's Degree on Game Art & Design.

Do you guys know this place? Is it a good place to study?

Do you guys know some place else where I can learn these subjects?

Dou you guys know some courses that I would pay for modules and not a full bachelor's degree?

Thanks in advance...

Pixel Art / My first pixel art - Fly
« on: March 16, 2008, 01:07:06 pm »
Hey guys,

I'm a programmer and I'm trying to make a small game. I don't have much skills on drawing even after I took some drawing classes, but I am always trying to learn it. Well, I'm making a small SPACE INVADERS clone, but this small game is all about flys. I made some pixelart for it and I would like to improve it with your help. I'm using Gale to do it. Ok, here it comes. I made a small 16x16 icon, a small 32x32 icon and a fly for the menu screen. These are the images:
