Your line work is excellent, that tank is very nice looking. What you should focus on, in my opinion, is dynamic lighting and textures. All pixelart is flat, it takes a lot of practice to trick the eye into believing the object in question is 3-dimensional. If you can, take a look at a real model train, move the light source around a bit and get a feel for how lighting works.

Cool, thanks. The shield is causing me a lot of problems, because it takes up a good portion of his left side and moving it around screws everything up. The new update makes it look slightly smaller, what do you think?

Pixel Art / [WIP] Hoplite -Update 2-
« on: January 17, 2008, 11:45:12 pm »
I think I'm almost done, I just need to adjust the shield a bit and finish up the spear. C + C greatly appreciated. Best viewed at 2x, IMO.

-UPDATE-

Stretched out the body, shrunk the head, finished the spear (I think), modified some of the colors, finished the shield (I think).

-UPDATE-

Darkened the base yellow, tweaked the shield, and reduced the color count by 2 or 3. There's still 2 colors that are hiding, a mere point or 2 lighter or darker than the rest, that I can't find.

-UPDATE-

Just scrapped the shield and cheated using the circle tool (no shame!). It's finished, unless anyone has something to say about it.

His torso is pretty long. I'd cut it down by one or two pixels, detail be damned.

Looks pretty good, though I think the textures on the wood and stone look way too repetitive and busy.

Contrast, contrast, contrast! My biggest complaint with almost every piece I see is that people don't use enough contrast. It makes the image hard to read, and your wasting colors. Darken your darks and lighten your lights.

Pixel Art / [WIP] Demon Armor *UPDATE 3*
« on: January 13, 2008, 12:03:59 am »
My last thread went unnoticed, sadly, though I think it was just too small and unfinished to comment or critique. I got busy and never finished it, but I whipped something up in about 20-30 minutes. Started out as a random doodle and I decided to try and dither it. C+C welcome.

--UPDATE 1.--

Added some details.

--UPDATE 2--

Added the shoulders and started the arms:

The dithering looks a little shaky on the left (his right) shoulder, I'm not sure how to fix it.

--UPDATE 2.5--

Started the sword, finished the right shoulder pad, started the body armor.

--UPDATE 3--

Added the elbow pads, finished the basic outline of the body armor, started the "legs."

Looks like a WIP to me, you should increase the contrast between all of the colors and replace the black with a dark green. Otherwise I like it a lot.  :y:

You still need to increase the contrast, until it's easy to see the shading and highlights at a glance. When you're doing something of this size, don't be afraid to use bright highlights and dark shades.

I did a little modification of the zombie guy, again added some contrast and changed the colors very slightly, and I tweaked his left leg:
