Pixel Art / Re: Tank [WIP]

UPDATED!

I redid everything with the original lines and cleaned them up just a tad.  I intensified the explosion glow, and used one less color than before, making it 12 colors (including transparency).  I redid the lighter greens, making them stand out a little more.

So, do you like this version better than before?  C&C is still welcome if you think this needs some more.

Thanks for your time,

I think I like the first one more... had a Yoshi's Island kind of style to it. Of course, there was still a lot that could be done to it, but personally I don't think it should be the direction it's going.

I'd be inclined to agree with this... :)

So some clarification: You guys think I should go back to the original lines?

UPDATE!

I slimmed down the lines greatly, removed the lines around the explosion, revised the star, followed Sherman's example of that red smoke (awesome, by the way), added some vents, and redid all of the lights and the shading.  I'm still open to C&C, because this still needs some work I think... I just don't know what else.

Thank you for your time and effort,

Pixel Art / Tank [WIP] UPDATED! v. 3
« on: October 27, 2007, 12:44:11 am »
1st:
2nd(neat version):
3rd(sketchy version):

The lineart is by BriantheGreat from over at PixelJoint.  I figured coloring lineart wouldn't be too bad of a place to start off pixeling, so I looked around and found these lines that I liked.  :crazy:  I tried to get the glow from the explosion to be on the tank, but I'm not sure if I did it right.  Any C&C at all is GREATLY appreciated!  ;D

Thanks for your time,

Atum:  That 3rd WIP is really awesome!  But I think the light in the doorway is almost too bright and too big for the doorway.

I'm not sure if I'm getting the same effect that you guys are getting... What exactly is the effect?  Is it because I have an older monitor with a lens shaped screen?  Do I need a flat screen monitor to view it correctly?  Perhaps my eyes are going loopy.  :crazy:

General Discussion / Re: Starting Off

Sweet, thanks pkmays!  I havn't had much time to look at it, but I'll be sure to check it out as soon as I can.  :) Thanks again!

EDIT: I've read all of Tsugumo's tutorials, but I still don't know what I should start pixeling!  I have a pretty bad case of pixel-block... Any suggestions of what a first-timer should attempt?

General Discussion / Starting Off
« on: October 17, 2007, 09:33:28 pm »
Having never pixeled before, I'm not really sure where to start off.  I don't want to start off too big, fail miserably, and get disheartened.  So I ask you more experienced pixel-artists, where should I start out?  What sort of thing should I start pixeling to get a hang of it?  Thanks for your time and help. :)

Pixel Art / Re: Newbie presents

I don't see anything wrong with the animation itself, but I'm a complete newb to pixeling, so I really wouldn't know.  As for with the background, the background (frontal view) is at a different perspective than the character (top-downish perspective), so it looks unusual.
