General Discussion / [Vote] Photoshop vs Aseprite for Sprite Animation
« on: September 11, 2016, 09:55:33 pm »
I'm in an argument with my friend about which program is better to use for pixel art. I personally think Aseprite's interface is simpler and has more pixel art/spriting features that immediately available for use. His argument is that Photoshop has all the features Aseprite has and more.

What's your opinion? Vote below with which program you would rather use and why. Thanks!

Pixel Art / Re: [C&C] Knight Climbing Animation
« on: September 11, 2016, 01:47:40 pm »
Spend some time on youtube watching videos of people climb ladders. He's missing out on basic ladder safety! His torso moves in an odd way, when climbing a ladder your torso does move, but your hips and shoulders move at counterpoint.
Haha I love the ladder safety video! Even though my knight doesn't have to worry about tipping the ladder over in my game, this video does help show the proper way to climb. Thanks for the reference, I'll work on an improved version.

I swapped the legs in frame 1 with the legs and frame 3. This changed the motion to opposite leg, opposite arm climbing. It also fixed the problem with the hips and the shoulders.

Please consider refactoring your question to make it more specific.

Pixel Art / [C&C] Knight Climbing Animation
« on: September 11, 2016, 02:40:38 am »
First attempt at a 4-frame ladder climbing animation for a knight. The colors are already decided because they match previous animations, so don't worry about changing the colors. I'm mostly interested to know how well I got down the motion of the knight and how I can smooth it out. All suggestions are welcome!

Better than my first one, but definitely needs some work.

All criticism is welcome!

Thank you for all the images of dirt! I never thought dirt could be so diverse. I will keep this in mind when I practice making more dirt tiles :)

How is this in terms of color and shape?

Also, I'm not sure how to shade dirt. I find it very difficult to get good shading on a 16x16 pixel image. Any tips?

EDIT:
After looking at the image again I see how red the brown is. But I still want to know if the shape is good (in terms of rockiness).

EDIT 2:
More dirt (3x3):

Bottom right one is my favorite. Let me know what you guys think!
