Pixel Art / Re: That Tank Monster Again (Critique, Feedback)
« on: January 01, 2018, 03:15:19 pm »
Just a quick dirty edit.
I added one more frame to lengthen the build up.
I made its head go higher as it hold the breath.
Its lips cling together in the build up also to express the breath-holding more.
I added a exhale pop so there would be more pressure(?) to the sprout.
Its head also bobs down a bit at the sprout to show the exhaustion after the sprout.

Changed the cross' border and shading a bit.
Added sword and shield.

How does the hand holding the sword look? Is it easy to read?

Added shading on face.
Added the cross on the cape.

How do I shade the cross better? I tried highlighting on the left part of it, does it work?

Made arms thicker.
Changed face shading to look less hairy-monkey-like .
Changed eyes to match reference (in main post).

Still confused on making the shading on the face better :(.

Refined cloth shadow a little bit.
Added arms.
Added bag.
Changed the shadow under the helmet a bit.

How does the arm look? Could I get some advice on making the hand look more like "hand" (not too realistic though)?

Hello, I'm back.
I hadn't spent much time on this work since then. I have only returned to it recently.
I tried studying cape but I'm not sure how to do that effectively, I'm still confused about it :blind:.
Here's what I have so far.

New cloth and added details to helmet.
Face is also given a different light source.
Added bagbelt.

How had I done the cloth?

Pixel Art / Re: [WIP][C+C] Help with NES sprite!

Hi Tbone,
For a begineer, I think your sprite looks nice. To move on, here are my critiques for your work - I'm not much experienced in pixel art though :-[
(Click on image to zoom-in, hold Ctrl while clicking to zoom-out)
On your sprites, there doesn't seem to be enough shadow to define the shape. I can also see some banding, mostly on the body. It seems you tried to make the rib more detailed but that increases the noise, which made the sprite hard-to-read and flat. On the other hand, the highlight of the helmet isn't much visible because of its low contrast.
Overall, your sprite look fine if you are heading for simplicity, exempting the minor mistake (banding, low contrast).
With that, I recommend you to read this tutorial to know more about pixel art in general: http://pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=11299

To digress for a moment, as far as I know, you can only have 4 colors per sprite on NES. Though I'm not sure if that is correct or there are any restrictions else, here's what I would do if there were such limitation.

First thing you'd notice is the different palette, I used 4 colors.
Well, you can see that I redesigned the skeleton completely so it would resemble a skeleton more, I hope. To expand further, I also gave it a more active pose, mainly the legs and its right arm, to make it look less relaxed. For the lighting, I made certain areas to be darker so it'd be easier to read which part is which. Lastly, it's my poor attempt at subpixelling, most obvious on the body :P.

Note, this forum has a built-in zoom function, you don't have to resize your sprites.

Hey, I'm back.

I moved the visor up a bit in according to Petrichor's suggestion, it is widened too (if you can't see it clearly, the top of visor now has 4 pixels instead of 3  ;))
Added shadow on the bottom left of the beaver's face (your left), I think it has more depth now, not too sure though  :-\.
The visor ring grip is also added.
Arms idea changed.

My main question is: Should I make the robe appear as it is being blown by the wind? If yes, how strong should it be?

Hey guys, sorry for the late update again :-[, I had a busy week.
@heyguy: Thanks for the advice! And no, it won't be animated, it's just a gift for my friend.
@Petrichor: I tried to add more shadow under the visor, I'm not sure if I need to change the shape of the visor?

Added another highlight shade on the helmet, does it look more metallic now?
