Pixel Art / Help With Metallic Stream Overlay
« on: September 01, 2020, 11:23:18 pm »
So I am working on a stream overlay and this is what I have:

The left and right side are different versions.
I want it to look interesting/good while also allowing the text to be easily readable. The text is black for reference but I can change it's color.
I'm having trouble making it look properly shiny and interesting.
Please feel free to give critique and advice, thanks.

Hey, so I have to do an essay for language arts, and I wanted to do it on the history and integration of pixel art in the past and today. I know I have seen some good forum posts, websites, and other things, but I don't have them saved and can't seem to find them.

So, if you could, can you post some good sources for pixel art history and discussion about pixel art as a modern art form?

-Thank you so much! :)

Heres a new one:

It's still not finished, obviously there is still work to be done. I still need to work on the background and the head thing needs work. I like how the legs turned out though. I also changed some colors around, but I'm still not sure if I like the new colors better. And tomorrow, hopefully more progress.

Update:

I tried adding some more detail, but now that I look at it, the legs are too thin and I don't really like their design. Oh well, I guess I'll work on this some more tomorrow.

So I am working on this:

I need help with details and with what I should do with the background. FYI, I am using the nes color palette. I just don't know where to go from here. Please give me feedback and ideas. I will post updates until I feel it is done. Thanks!

Let's do this

I love sci-fi and mechanical stuff, like robots, mechs etc. I also like dinosaurs and cool beasts. I don't really dislike anything, so just do your best and have fun.

Here is an edit. Adjusted proportions and skeleton. Also added shading and changed some colors.

I made an edit :) .

First off, it is difficult to shade a ghost, the biggest reason being that they are semi-transparent. It's basically like shading mist. Another reason why shading is difficult is because it is so small, and with small images , the general shape and form is more important than the details. What I did is not to worry about the shading, and just get the form of the ghost down, along with some clothes. Ghosts resemble a person, so I drew a human-like figure first. Then I made it look kind of whithered, after that, I cut down the legs to make them seem like they are fading away. Then I added some clothes on in a different color. I also made it a little bit bigger, just so that I could put in some more detail. So yeah, I hope this helps.

So here is the last version (probably)

So I tried to do different variations, and I am pretty happy with them. I tried to use more dynamic colors and hue shifts, and I like the way it looks. I probably won't be able to modify these before the challenge is over, but I still might modify these afterward, just for fun. I like the base that I originally made and I feel like I could get some good ideas from it and these.

@jun, I liked the way that your colors worked and the way that you modified the design, but it was in a different style than what I was going for. Thanks for the input on the colors, I feel like my blue and purple-ish ones were a bit dark, but I liked the extra variation. Thanks you!
