To be perfectly honest there wasn't any compositional intention in this.   Its more just having fun and trying to get around a creative block.

3x3 text was a personal challenge that I'm yet to conquer.  Z and G elude me, and m and w are cheating.

Hey guys I made a thing because I was bored.  I tried doing something different and new (to me) and I was just wanting some more hardcore analysis/critique.

Also I made a 3x3 font as many have done before, but I like it.

Sorry.  I did a little behind the scenes housekeeping.  Links should work now.

In Soldat, when using the Barrett for example, that blending acts as a tactical advantage.  In this, I am trying to make the characters more visible, while give them the chance to use cover.  While in hindsight it is a terrible design decision, the thinner walls can be used for cover, but you can walk through them at any time (provided an enemy isn't taking cover behind it).

At this point I'm finding the style of the game and the weapons involved aren't probably suited to such gameplay, especially in this map where the cover is really only centred in the bases (poor level design on my part).  However, I am set on the idea of using cover in a 2D plane, but I'm just thinking perhaps this isnt the right project to attempt it on.

Tangents aside, I think you may have a valid point about their congruency with their surroundings.  I initially thought the outlines would help improve readability, but it may not be needed in the end.

I'll report back to this shortly, hopefully with the beginnings of a new level and a fresh start.

I posted it as a URL because it may be a screen stretcher, but i suppose you may have a point.

As far as I know I didn't use a white outline on any of the characters.  They are lighter shades of blue and red for the respective teams.  And I'd much rather not add colours to the characters, the simplicity means theres a higher chance of completion plus hopefully readability at the smaller size of the characters.

TIGS told me to buckle down and make a game, so i made a fair amount of sprites that would serve me well, but ran out of inspiration/time on the coding thing.  Nonetheless I have a mockup here, and an eagerness to learn. Here is basically a mock level that shows no real concept of level design, and various poses and sprites. Here I am trying out various graphical effects, as well as implementing some game related visuals.

Now thats all probably not gonna make sense when i read it upon waking, but hopefully my intention is clear enough.

Downloaded Alchemy (, and had my first serious attempt at this whole digital art painting thing.  I am happy with aspects of it, but I dislike the entire right side, which is a shame considering how much of the canvas it takes up.

EDIT:  Made another picture that isn't as well formed but is just me messing around with more ideas on the face, plus some cheap and nasty scarring.

First post in years.  I have lurked around a lil, but heres my first contribution since about 2007.

hmm.  Why personally, I can understand making stuff up to make a better story, I also didn't like 300.  I mean, quite personally, I think authentic history, or getting it as authentic as possible with the info we have, is infinitely more interesting than anything you could make up.

Again to make demands/ask questions, are there any recommendations for good graphic novels that aren't too hard to find?  I mean, I really don't live near anywhere which I could call a good purveyor of Comics, and the libraries around me don't stock too many things that aren't really 'mainstream'.  I suppose, really, the most notable comics I've read are 1602 and Sin City: Booze, Broads and Blood, again due to being unable to find much of anything..

As for comics I'd like to read, again due to lack of knowledge, are Sandman, Ronin, Hard goodbye, and I'm interested in Hellboy, though from the looks of the covers, the art style doesn't really appeal to me.

Should i be considered a comic book noob (which I know I am) if I like Frank Miller? From what little i've read its okay..  but then again, lack of monetary status disallows me from pursuing the reading of comic books/graphics novels.
