Pixel Art / Re: Main Character - Help
« on: September 12, 2014, 05:02:17 am »
Well, I like the character style you've gone for. It's awesome, and different from most I've seen on here. aside from that, I don't really have much to say from a critique standpoint, as I am not very experienced or knowledgeable in the way of the pixel. But...

I've been looking for someone to write a score for. My problem has always been the person I'm working with loses interest in their project. As you say you are doing this for university, my worries are much less in this regard. So! If you don't already have someone willing to work on music for you, I'd love to put some good time and effort into a bunch of nice tracks for you, if that is of interest to you.

I disagree with Facet. I think the shiny hair gives the sprite a good contrast that the one with matte hair doesn't have. Actually, the non-shiny haired sprite seems very drab to me. Just my opinion.

Also, great work on the portrait. I like it a lot.

Can't wait to see how the environments turn out!  ;)

The third stance is really akward, like he would fall over backwards. If you move his legs a column or two to the left, that should hopefully make him look like his legs can keep him standing... Sorry if I can't be much more help... :-[

Hey! Love this thread, not too fond of the tree trunks tho..  :-X

How about something like this?

(the one on the left side)

I think the style of this tileset is supposed to be more whimsical, and the trunk that you suggested is just too realistic. Frankly I adore the trunk that's already in place.

That makes me so excited! I know I'm no where near as good as you but I did something very similar to yours but only using 3 colors (not including outline) I stole your grass though. :P Do you mind if I continue this little project? :)

Yes you can take them if you want... I starded make new grass.

Also, I love the new grass. It needed an update. This one is much more natural, while the old one was far too cartoonyacartoony and even.

The second one looks more casual(which I like), but it also looks like maybe she's gotten tiered? I would use it if there was only going to be a girl character, but if you want her to appear more agile in comparison to a boy character, then the first one will probably work better. You might want to make a few rough versions for the boy first, then decide on wich one of these you want to work wIth more.

I do like the first one the best, but I'd probably only use it with a bulkier character(because the leg comes back slowly). The second seems very animated, almost cartoony. I don't really have a critique for the third one, sorry. I guess it just depends on what kind of style you're tryIng to work with. I can't really help any farthur than that right now, because it's late, I'm tiered, and I'm only on my phone, not an actual computer, but I'll look into it more tomorrow if I can.

I agree with Friend, the simple design is great in contrast with the image. I like both the beasties you've got so far. The backgrounds seem a bit empty, though. Keep going!
