I'm an aspiring game designer. I have about 4 years of pixel art experience, and i can design small to gigantic pixel art material if necessary. Alright when you do a portrait ,sometimes starting small may not be the best idea the more room you have the more details you can add within the portrait pixel art piece which you are working on.

I think pixel piledriver's needs to animate the dragon head fire headball as well then it will look better but that's the only reason i like sohei's better and also the way Pixel piledriver has it animated makes it look more like water[or liquid] than fire

fixed the neck it was really angled i tried to keep it as close as possible didn't add on the palette added a fire in there as well

The animation is a bit stiff when you shoot a gun the arms usually move up to insinuate that a shot has been fired also bend the legs a little or change the pose. Up to you

The light palette color needs to blend with the dark tones a bit more and it doesn't look relatively close to the example you showed us yours looks more detailed while the example has simple shading and also the shape of the head doesn't match the way the heads are shaped in the example as well.
