General Discussion / Re: What's going on: (completed)

I adjusted some settings on our end to try and fix the cookie conflict, but it may still be necessary to clear your cookies again.  If anyone's still having login issues (and the steps Helm posted above aren't helping) either post here or send me a PM, I'd really like to get this resolved for you all :)

edit: some updates:

About the spell checker:  I had to contact the host for the access to get this one fixed.  Hopefully they'll give me a timely reply so that I can move on it.

Quoting: This seems to have been fixed with some of the other repairs I was making.  If anyone still has problems, I'd love to know :p

General Discussion / What's going on: (BUG REPORTING THREAD)

We had a few unforseen issues getting our visual template to agree with our newly updated forum software.  You can still browse and post (almost) normally, and your messages will not be lost or compromised in any way.  We are working to restore order :p Happy pixels!

Everything should be back to "normal".  If you see anything out of the ordinary, shoot me a PM.

If you notice any weirdness going on with your login status, or if the forum seems to switch skins when you load different pages, try clearing your cookies.

I pixel in spurts and take frequent breaks.  Personally, I find it helpful to get away from a piece for a while, think about what needs to be done to it next while I soak up some Animal Planet, and come back with a fresh eye.  If I'm working on some in-game or mockup stuff, I also like to stick my WIP against a mockup or background from that project when I get back from a break to see how well it's fitting in with the rest of the art.

This is a pimptacular idea, and I'll gladly do it if you decide I have anything to say :P

I see no conflict of interest here. Pixelation is a public forum run at negative profit in order to promote the free exchange of information, Kon's website is his business both in the commercial and personal senses, in which some exclusive information is exchanged in a transaction.  Information on both Pixelation and Final Redemption is first and foremost a commodity, and its distribution is and should be entirely up to the creators.  We're a free site by choice, Kon charges by exercising the same choice.

I think a conflict of interest arises in questioning how an artist chooses to distribute their art.  It's not like there are a ton of niches for pixel atists anymore, and this type of thinking will only hurt us in the long run by narrowing our options.  Personally, Kon, I wish you the best of luck, and would be interested to hear how this venture pans out.

I've never heard of any pixel art at HD or similar resolutions; as far as I know, even most of the isometric pixel art that's made it to print was printed at screen resolution.

The Intuos3 fixed a couple issues with pen response time that the Intuos2 had; I've tried both the graphire and I3 at various points and although I wasn't comparing them side by side I didn't have a preference.  Really, either one will be a solid choice.  IIRC the Intuos will be a little more accurate (by like, almost 1/4 of a pixel :p), with twice the pressure sensitivity, but you'd have to make some pretty extreme (extremely long and drawn out with varying levels of pressure) strokes to notice a big difference I'd think :p

General Discussion / Re: Tablets

I've used a ton of tablets and although I'm not really qualified to give a review of them all, I have to say the graphire4 is very suitable for just about anything you could put it through, probably my favorite non-lcd tablet since the original Intuos :p

Personally I coughed up the extra money for an LCD tablet (well not really, I got a pretty good deal on it :p) and love the heck out of it.  As far as pixels go, I use it a lot more for figures and lines than I do for tiles, textures, or details, but during the course of a piece I tend to flip between mouse and tablet a few times regardless of what I'm working on... being able to draw directly on the screen is simply too badass to pass up.  Plus, extra monitor.

From what I've seen a lot of people don't like lcd tablets, or don't think the extra expense is worth the benefit, but if you can afford it it might be worth a look.

The best advice I can give to someone looking at buying a new tablet is to try some out in a few different sizes to see which size suits you the best.  Most people I know prefer a smaller size because they can make big sweeping curves with minimal movements, but it all depends on how you work.  Mine's a 17" monitor (13.6x10.2 inches, if my math is correct) and sometimes I wish it was a little smaller, but being able to draw on the screen as well as have a full-size secondary monitor more than makes up for that.  The tablets at my school are gigantic, and quite unwieldy imo, especially when you're used to high mouse sensitivity.

In my experience, pixel rippers almost always get caught, even if word doesn't make it to the 'public' :p

I'm extremely nearsighted to the point of microscopic vision (we're talking borderline-superpower shit), but thanks to contacts nobody can tell

My dad was a fireman (retired) and my mom is a nurse.

Not that it matters because I don't think many of you have seen my art and can judge my level of competency ;p
