Pixel Art / Re: Subpixel Experiments
« on: January 21, 2010, 04:13:18 pm »
Does sub pixel rendering make anyone else's eyes feel like they are bleeding?
On the other hand, I read that article and realised that it is a handy tool but a little too much to think about, especially if we can't edit these sort of things at a normal level of magnification, because for pixel pushers we need a 3x3 square to represent each pixel.

Sorry about bumping this old topic. but i wanted to check out a little thing...

IF IT DOESN'T EXIST YET...
Do you think it'd be valuable to have a GFX tool able to switch between SubPixel and Pixel paint modes?
I want this info because maybe it can be added to my 2010 todo list.

If bumping this thread was a bad idea, please just close it. Ty.

« on: August 13, 2008, 02:32:02 pm »
it's a 16 color piece and it can be used as icon for nes roms (i'm doing it).
preserves old school style, i think, as i use 16 colors (i think 14, but...)

greets to everybody!

sorry about this, but eyed blocks first appeared on super mario world, and they can have all kind of objects. that's the correct way they work. I think that goomba does'nt read at all.

PS:another thing: when you save your gifs, set each frame on background replace mode, there'll be an option somewhere

Pixel Art / Re: Isometric Community - First Shot at Iso
« on: July 03, 2008, 09:24:54 am »
thats better, but still have some serious issues:

the projected shadow we have on the second....it does'nt go right. you seem to have either two lightsources or you draw wrong that shadow. i'll do it shorther.

the outlines you are using here, they are better, but still too light, try darkening them a bit :)
the grass, it's easy to give it a nice texture, and the streetsides are the best of the pic by the moment...but make sure to put shadows on the left side to go ok with your lightsource ;)
regards!

i'm sorry for the last post. i forgot to critic your original piece. i'll try to be constructive as much as i can (and know)
ok the thing:

*the dithering is very poor, but the pattern you use reminds me sega style, wich is totally ok, at least for me. You can make the colors more contrasted or to go from white to bluish gray, the steps should be visible but not too contrasted.

*outlines. the same fail as many: try to think of the outlines as a tool to say where is the light source. You should desaturate the color near the outlines and lower his lightness until about 33% of his original lighting. Black outlines are good to remark some important sprites on games but not to use them everywhere, if you arent trying to keep that style i'd rather consider to work on that fields better before trying to do anything more complicated.

*grass textureżż?? you are making a static pattern on the grass, as i can see, it looks like a c64 checboard :)
but not a grass texture. it's more like a field to play cards, you know? it's sure it'll help you reading some tutorials before trying to attempt a complex drawing, although it's good to learning on the fly :D

good luck.

PS: look for references for grass turf on google ;)
