Pixel Art / Re: Game Art

Thanks for the comments Larwick (it's funny how it gets flatter from right to left. I want to improve my perspective).
I don't really know what to say about these but they are sketches so I guess, not 100% pixel art.
I'm basically experimenting. I've done some more in the same style but I've posted them on a more suitable forum.

If anyone's interested - www.gamingw.net/forums/index.php?topic=71489.0

Good evening, fellow pixelorz.
I haven't posted here in a while (not for lack of pixelling) but I did this cool squid today so here it is.
Tell us what you think please :).

It took me quite a while getting around to doing this (I've just started an IT course and it's been really busy) but I'm happy with what I've done.
I learnt from an article on light that colours become less saturated in highlights and shadows.

Thanks Fool and Opacus

That is really fantastic.
I hope to be that good someday.

I'm not going to post a revision of my plant cause I feel intimidated but I will learn from this example.

;D

Pixel Art / Game Art [Just a Plant]

My own colours and everything :D.

I'm trying to be influenced by Fool's work (probably my favourite pixel artist) because I want to design games and his art is really fun to look at and, as far as I understand, it reads well which is a big bonus with game art. So I'm asking for critique that directs me towards his way of doing things, if you think my reasons are correct for wanting to emulate his style.

Here's a piece that I like a lot: http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/28342.htm

Thanks for that Tocky, I might use your post as "evidence". It's ironic that the better you replicate an image, the more people suspect you've cheated. Luckily for me I'm not that good :).

They've both been approved now, thanks.

Ops. Pixel Joint's rejecting the pieces on account of them not being mine. In all fairness, I shouldn't post stuff like this anyway, it's kinda easy to copy something so closely (I didn't paint over, trace or colour reduce btw).

Boonannies. 19 colours taken from reference again (http://www.stlucia.gov.lc/pr2000/images/bananas1.jpg).
This took a few hours but was relaxing and fun.
Ain't shadows a bitch though?

I'll be posting these in PJ if nobody has any qualms.

- Shadow revamped
- AA applied around the borders
- Dithered and sketchy lines removed
- Lessened use of bright orange
(I'm not sure how to redo the leaf's shadow but it does look very dark).

Yup, the grey block was part of the reference I shrunk down and put next to my piece, well spotted.
Thanks for the suggestions and nice comments :D.
And thanks for the edit.
