General Discussion / Super Metroid and You...
« on: June 21, 2015, 11:31:31 pm »

So I've been over at Metroid Construction making some gfx for some people. My thread here shows a tileset that I had created for the community to use freely. I did this because I love Metroid and what the people do on this website is incredibly commendable, because it is commendably difficult! The community there needs experienced pixel artists to create fresh new content for many aspects in the Metroid universe, and they'll love you for doing so.

So I propose that if you want a true challenge, offer your talents and make something for the metroid community. New level graphics is a good place to start, but there are also a variety of enemies and bosses too. There is enough information and custom tools available to beat the learning curve involved with SM hacking, and even I have found ways to streamline the process. Just making the graphics to certain specs in an image is useful, as someone else may import the graphics for you, or use them in their project.

If you're interested, head over to Metroid Construction and check it out. You can read through my thread to learn how I did my tileset. It may provide insight on how to implement custom artwork.

If anyone has any questions, I'm always available to share information and knowledge.

Thank you and I hope to see some of you over at MetConst.

EDIT: aaaaand i posted in the wrong section

I haven't given up, I'll practice a bit in the mean time. I need to sorta reinvent this character, his design most likely will stay the same. I may post my practicings.

I agree with the stealing part, and I suck at pixel hair. I do want something similar to the original design, just better and I'll work on that myself. It saddens me that I can't edit at this time, as I want to learn as much as I can. (I'm not at home)

That last edit is really nice but he looks just too furry. Still, mad skills and impressive work.

The hardest part is the various costumes. The guy travels and wears a variety of gear to protect him from the different environments. Things like an arctic snow suit, hazmat suit, scuba gear, and other various protective wear. Each with their own character set. The game is also more science fiction than anything.

I appreciate the help, will be back later with stuff.

This is a mix of our two designs. I like the single strap back pack idea. It just seems more explorer-esque.

Kept his goggles but changed them up a bit.

His persona is middle aged father, is tired and worn. In the setting of the game, he's a bit lost. He's a traveling engineer that knows an advanced level of technologies and machines. If it would help even further, I could pass you some of the music even.

This website is magic.

Its a bit better? I know I'm stuck on the colors.
Was going for something similar to this.

Wish I had a team sometimes, I have over 20 character sets of this guy >:[ Will be working on the side and back poses a bit later after the weekend. I will post accordingly. Other things to do, but for now, thanks for the help, very appreciated!

If anyone wants to take a stab at it, be my guest. :3

Pixel Art / [NEED HELP] Character needs a make over.

I have a pretty large project and its been years since my days of the pixel (I blame 3D for that) but now I need to be back on the scene.

So here's a pretty important character in the project.

This is the base character set. Its flat, drab, dry, suck, whatever, it is. The theme of the world surrounding him is derelict technology and metal. So yeah he doesn't fit in. I have support of 24 bit png so unlimited colors is ok, also some kind of shadow to ground the character is nice too. I tried to pay a lot of attention to the angle and motion, but my skills are just as rusty as the world in the game. I'd like to keep his design and colors of course.

So, any pointers? Help is greatly appreciated, your name will appear in the credits of the game.
