Pixel Art / Re: Beginnings of a GB tileset

It`s really not a problem, I was only joking. I was inspired by the original Cave Story after all.

That first screenshot looks a little familiar but I can`t quite place it...

Metal Storm is just mimicking the look of parallax scrolling by cleverly using animated tiles if I am not mistaken. Games designers used to use these sort of tricks in the good old days. When your character moves the tiles animate. Simple but effective.

Thanks I have had a quick look and there doesn`t seem to be a global toggle which is a shame. Hopefully I have just missed something.

General Discussion / Firefox 3.6 Released - Pixel Art Problems Fixed?
« on: January 22, 2010, 07:13:35 pm »
So has anyone had a chance to test whether we can get our crisp pixel art images working correctly yet? Hopefully this feature is now included. I haven`t been able to test it yet myself.

Thanks Helm for the explanation and for taking the time to show it so clearly (complete with nice drawings, much appreciated :) ) I`ve seen people doing a similar technique before but you`ve just made it so much clearer. I must give this method a try. Thanks again. I have a feeling that it is going to be trickier than it looks though... Incidentally, do you do any 3D modelling that you base this technique on?

I have a question, how do you, Helm go about creating your volumes for your pixel art? I find it especially hard to visualise at a pixel scale. Maybe my traditional skills need more work but I would still like to hear how you tackle the subject if you have some time. It is quite hard to create realistic volumes at this level and things seem to work better if you go for simplicity in my eyes.

Cheers for reading,
Jason.

I agree with Helm. By removing distracting details the viewer can imagine what would be in the scene instead of having them all forced on them at once. Also, the small added black in the lower right adds some balance to the overall piece.

All in all though, very nice.

Does anyone have the tool described in this thread handy?

I would love to give it a go but the link no longer works sadly.

Thanks for any help.

Jason.
