Yo, this is a WIP of a gift for one of my friends (a big fan of Gaga). Don't worry, I'm not trying to hide my own feelings about her (I admittedly think Gaga is cool), so lets focus on the pixels!

Atm its sort of bad... I'ts my first pixel in over 7 months~ish, so I'm eager to learn/relearn.
EDIT: More Posted below ~ Concentrate on the Pixelated Woman atm, because I'm not working on the gift pixel anymore.

Evangelion got away with it so I think it's ok to an extent. The only thing I don't like is the silhouette isn't very good and her stance is a bit boring. It seems like you might be hiding her hands because you aren't sure how to draw them. Right now you are hiding the arm on the left too much that it doesn't even look like it's there. However maybe thats one of Gaga's actual stances I don't know. The face however is ace so don't go changing that too much! It's pretty good so far just gotta make a few changes.

Here's an edit of the W.I.P. I tried to address the anatomy and composition issues. After I get the body down, I'll probably do some more work on the hair. I think it could use some more attention. Any opinions on color choice? Pose?

I took a look at my old files and picked up a particularly interesting old piece. I started reworking it. I hope the improvements are substantial. I've chosen to take her in a different direction ethnically, so C&C is welcome, along with (my favorite) edits.I started by reworking the face, breasts, hair, and cannon.

Another update:
Still working on the overall pose. I tried to focus on her hair and on her background arm. I had some problems rendering her hand. I could use some help there.

I think I'm going to give her a sword to repay her for scrapping the cannon idea. Or maybe a pistol... :-\

with the background arm, she lost quite a bit of floatiness. I don't know whether that's what you wanted. maybe it's the closed fist. if that's not what you wanted, then I'll help you out with an edit. :-*

I always appreciate someone else's rendering input. It keeps me out of monotony for sure. Any opinions on the other parts? I think her torso needs some work.

*modified torso by lengthening it slightly, also adjusted the breasts. still too... perfect-looking for my liking, but hey, this is a goddess. Also hand suggestion.
also, what sort of ethnicity is she supposed to be?

Mostly changed the same things as Accident (lengthened torso, changed breasts). Also widened hips a tad and changed the face.

Here's an update. I tried rendering the hand as best as I could in that position. I also reworked the shading on the torso and abdomen. Overall, going for a cleaner look. It was getting quite messy.

Connecting the leg & pelvis was a good idea.

The darkest shade in the skin tones looks green & a bit sickly when surrounded by the other colors. I would try reddening it.

Here's an edit of Sherman's edit. The far leg looks awkward when it isn't angled any. Everywhere else I tried to open up a bit more with the brightest skin tone. Her extended leg is wonderful. The extended arm is rigid and I didn't really address that.

Hey. Found some time to consider the more recent edits and work on this piece a bit more. At this point, I'm not satisfied with the rendering of the hands; therefore, edits are appreciated. Thanks to Atnas for the great insight on the background foot/leg. Same to 7321551 Re: the hands.

Neither arms or legs match in length and mass. Try not looking at it for a while and then... looking at it. Hopefully you'll see it.

Wow, yes. Both limb pairs have hermit crab syndrome. To get fresh eyes on it, sometimes you can mirror it horizontally or just turn it upside down.
Face is rather masculine. Almost looks likes a mustache there.
Sherman's edit adds some nice torso shading. I like it. Glad you ditched gaga.

Yup I see it. Sort of taking some time to figure out what to do about it. Probably been looking at it for way too long, though.

I thought about a few things and decided to make a few changes anatomically: face, torso, breasts, legs, feet, hands.
Essentially, I saw the hermit-crab syndrome as a product of multiple problems and made adjustments in order to remedy them.
Hopefully the changes are improvements.
Edit: the dithering is sort of preliminary and lame. I suck at dithering so help would certainly be welcome in that department.

While she seems to abide the laws of gravity now, the pose itself lost its flow. It's tends a little to what arne calls a flyswatted pose in his tutorial:

The original pose was a nice start in terms of dynamic posture, and it might be a good idea to keep that. Here's an edit addressing that as well as some proportional fix-ups (unfortunately, the volumes of the extremities still don't match in the latest version), but I'm not exactly an authority on anatomy myself.

That's really pretty =]; the comments are appreciated. Uhm, I think i'll try a redraw of the sprite and pose. I abandoned the floaty-ness despite how much I wanted it to work, so I'm not reluctant to try it again. I'll take your edit's pose into account, for sure.

That's the new version taking what miascugh had to say in consideration. I'm quite surprised at how far removed this is from the original. Not sure whether that's good or bad, but I have learned a lot in the process (I think).
Fully redrawn and all, while trying to preserve the palette as much as possible. Need to do a bit more work on the hands, feet, and hair.

A million thumbs up, great improvement! I personally prefer the more conventional palette too, which might not necessarily just be the more linear ramp, but mostly the shift in contrast that went along with it, accounting for a much improved readability. The specks of dark outlines here and there stick out as too harsh a contrast to me and maybe add a little space, talking ~1 pixel here, between the breasts (moving the right breast, her left, out to the right I'd say). Specifics about anatomy I'll leave to the more savvy to point out, should there be something to be pointed out - just the further foot, it strikes me as though her toes were cut off.
Keep it up, definitely was worth starting over :y:

the fingers could probably be a little longer, and the neck feels thin. since it supports the back of the head at the base of the skull, maybe it should be a pixel or so thicker towards the back.
her left arm (our right) strikes me as odd, the way it grows from her torso. I feel the upper arm is unaccounted for, or at least shortened drastically if hiding behind her.
perhaps the top of the breast on our right could slope a tad more gently into the torso?
huge improvement, bold and successful choice to redo from scratch.

Thanks! I'm going to take some time before the next version to keep my eyes fresh. Definitely agree regarding the comments on her neck and arm. I tried thickening the original pencil neck; hopefully a pixel or two more should do the trick. Glad to know the redraw was helpful. The original was constrictive in its integrity.

the breasts have the shape of large breasts (angled towards the sides) but are too small for that shape. This is manifesting in the breast on the right. It should be facing more forward

Her right breast is too small in comparison to the other (or the other is too big). Also, the hand you sketched out in post 21 is better as it's gesture more easily flows from her arm. The new one is actually going in the opposite direction.
