Title: Angry Tree - C&C please
Post by: Zweckform on January 06, 2010, 12:19:27 pm
Hello,

here is a new pic i just finished. So far i am happy with it, but as usual more eyes can find more issues. No ref for this one besides i had a look at some trees with moss.

Aim was to practise pixeling.

Uses 13 colors.

The overall form needs more definition through light and shade, the texturing is good.
The effect at the moment is as a shape cut from tree bark.
I like the excellently subtle hue-shifting and the archetypically angry eyes  >:

I was very cautious with the light - maybe too cautious. I did some fast tests and it really might improve the readability.

Nice to hear that.

I am thinking of adding a bit of an environment into this and i also realized i forgot to cast shadows  :blind:

Thanks for your input, new version will come.

No 2 ways about it. Your palette is far too weak, I adjusted 'er. The AA against the bg was a problem - required custom attention. I guess it's going to be a scene then?

Hello,

Mathias: Your version is a bit extreme and for me it somewhat looses the wooden feel, but it aims in the right direction. I will try a combination of the two ways by adjusting the palette and emphasising the volume by enlarging the dark and light areas a bit.

In the first place i just wanted to do this charcter because it haunted me. I am thinking about expanding it now though. I think its worth to put more work into this one.
