Title: Rodent Sprite (WIP)
Post by: zaphyr on August 25, 2009, 11:44:53 pm
Hey all, it's been a while since I did any pixel art, so I dusted off GraphicsGale and started doodling.  I've wound up with a rodent (not sure if it's a rat or a mouse, but hey :))

The dithering is bothering me though, I'm trying to suggest hair, but I couldn't get it to hug the contours of its body ???.  Any ideas?
Oh, and I know his stand pose has his arm too horizontal, I'll fix that next post.

Anyway, C+C much appreciated!

The first thing I noticed, was the lack of contrast. The colors are pretty similar, and so it's hard to tell pretty much anything about it. Secondly, you don't need so much dithering, try positing how it looks without it.

Thanks for the comment brod :)
You're totally right about the contrast, and I removed the dithering, too.  I sort of kept a bit of a ragged edge to the colour blends to try to
suggest hair, and I think it's closer than I've got it so far:
